Li Qunjie’s dedication and love

On November 26, Li Qunjie, a 92-year-old revolutionary man and the most famous contemporary calligrapher of the Naxi ethnic group, donated a batch of calligraphy masterpieces to the Yunnan Museum of Ethnology. On the same day, "A Tree's Old Roots Grow Strong - An Exhibition of Li Qunjie's Calligraphy Works" opened at the Yunnan Ethnology Museum. Mr. Li Qunjie was born in Lijiang Ancient Town in 1912. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1937 and served as secretary of the Yunnan Special Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1939. He later engaged in underground work for a long time. After the founding of New China, he served as deputy director of the Provincial Department of Culture and Education, deputy director of the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee, and secretary-general of the Provincial CPPCC. He was wrongfully imprisoned in 1958. After being rehabilitated in 1982, he served as a full-time member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. After retiring in 1986, he successively served as the honorary director of the Provincial Museum of Culture and History, a director of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, the chairman and honorary chairman of the Provincial Calligraphers Association, the president of the Yunnan Communist Party History Society, and a director of the China Yunnan International Cultural Exchange Center. Mr. Li Qunjie has been passionate about calligraphy since he was a child. In his calligraphy career of more than 80 years, he has developed a personal style of "iron-fisted spirit, delicate appearance, and skillful handling of Su Huangzi". His works have won awards in important exhibitions at home and abroad, and were selected as "one of the most famous calligraphers" by relevant national departments. He is an artist who has "both virtue and art" and "pays equal attention to morals and articles" and is "the most famous artist in Yunnan today". (China Cultural Relics Information Network)
