Zheng Banqiao (1693-1765 AD), courtesy name Ke Rou, a native of Xinghua, Jiangsu, is known as the "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou" together with Luo Pin, Li Fangying, Li Wei, Jin Nong, Huang Shen, Gao Xiang and Wang Shishen. He is a famous painter and calligrapher in the Qing Dynasty. Zheng Banqiao's poems, calligraphy and paintings are all excellent and are known as the "three masterpieces" in the world. His poems disdain idioms and often speak uninhibited words. He is good at painting orchids, bamboos and stones, especially ink bamboo. He learned from Xu Wei, Shi Tao and Bada Shanren. He advocates inheriting the tradition and "learns seven strokes and three strokes". Among them, Lan Ye Zhimiao uses burnt ink to draw brush strokes, using the vertical and long strokes in the cursive script to convey more and more without chaos and less without sparseness. He breaks away from the customs of the time and is unparalleled in elegance. His calligraphy is a mixture of regular script and regular script. He calls himself? Six and a half minutes of calligraphy?, calligraphy is also done with painting. Zheng Banqiao emphasized that the intention of artistic creation comes first, and advocated expressing "true temperament". His paintings are often a reflection of his thoughts and character.
Zheng Banqiao painted bamboo the most throughout his life, followed by orchids, stones, and occasionally pine. This "Double Pine Picture" is his masterpiece of pine painting. It was painted in the 23rd year of Qianlong (1759). It is one of Zheng Banqiao's representative paintings during his heyday. In the picture, two pine trees, one far and one near, stand against the sky, and three branches of thin bamboo stand next to them. They are tall and thin, reaching straight into the sky. The ink is watery and has different shades, realistically showing the texture of bamboo. In terms of composition, Zheng Banqiao coordinated the positional relationship between pine, bamboo and stone and the poem. The slenderness and rustle of bamboo bring out another style of pine.
"Two Pines" is the only existing work of Zheng Banqiao's true artistic creation. It is different from ordinary social works. It was a work given to his friend Su Weng by Zheng Banqiao. It is a sincere and precious work. During ten years of selling paintings in Yangzhou, Zheng Banqiao traveled all over the world and met many painting friends. Jin Nong, Huang Shen, etc. were all close to him. In 1736, the 44-year-old Zheng Banqiao passed the Jinshi examination and stayed in Beijing for more than a year. During this time, he met his good friend Su Weng. After that, Zheng Banqiao and Su Weng met twice in the twelfth year of Qianlong's reign and the fifteenth year of Qianlong's reign. They were like old friends and their friendship was evident. Zheng Banqiao described his friendship with Su Weng in the inscription of "Two Pines". He called himself his younger brother, and his admiration for Su Weng was beyond words. He described him as "like pines and cypresses on the rock." The tall and straight twin pines in the picture are the portrayal of Su Weng and his wife. Another small bamboo was placed on the side to compare with the emergence of many talents after Su Weng, and he himself also used small bamboo to make his own, "bamboo buds and luxuriant pine trees", surrounded by twin pines, always learning from the twin pines. In spring and summer, there is no competition for glory. , autumn and winter also do not see its spirit shaken?
