Why is Ouyang Xun called "European body"

"The flourishing and prosperous flowers extend his life"

——Appreciation of "Jiucheng Palace Liquan Inscription"

"Jiucheng Palace Liquan Inscription" (referred to as "Jiucheng Palace Liquan Inscription") "Liquan Ming", "Jiucheng Palace" and "Jiucheng Palace Stele") is a famous monument in the early Tang Dynasty. It was established in Linyou (now Linyou County, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province) in the sixth year of Zhenguan of the Tang Dynasty (AD 632). There is a stele pavilion built at the Jiucheng Palace site in Dushui, Linyou County, which is a national treasure of China. The inscription was written by Wei Zheng and written by Ouyang Xun, but the engraving work cannot be verified.

Ouyang Xun was the first of the four major calligraphers in the early Tang Dynasty (Ouyang Xun, Yu Shinan, Chu Suiliang, and Xue Ji). His calligraphy was respected by later generations of calligraphers and he was known as "the number one regular calligrapher in the Tang Dynasty" , "the best calligraphy in official script", and later generations called it "Ou Kai" in official script. The most direct and important reason why "Jiucheng Palace Stele" has great reputation and long-lasting influence is that Ouyang Xun used regular script to write elixirs, especially those written by Fengchi. It’s called the “Eternal Law.” Calligraphers in the past dynasties have praised "Jiucheng Palace Stele" a lot.

The writing style of "Jiuchenggongbei" has specific writing styles such as Beibei (Wei stele) and official script. The font structure is elegant and generous, and the French style is rigorous. It seems to be fair, but in fact it is dangerous. The font adopts a rectangular shape, the spacing between words and lines is large, and the organization is loose and clear. From my understanding, some of the strokes and individual word examples have the following characteristics:

Horizontal - neatly arranged, slightly upturned and steady, sometimes the middle section is thicker than the two ends, which gives a sense of substance;

In addition to the common long strokes, short strokes, back-turn strokes, and orchid leaf strokes, there are also bent-head strokes that emphasize the pause at the beginning of the stroke;

Na—usually straighter , a few are slightly arc-shaped, and the transition before and after the stroke at the end is implicit, natural, and smooth;

Point (reflection) - strong and powerful, with a hint of Wei stele;

Vertical - - The vertical pen is straight and strong. In addition to the common hanging pin vertical and hanging exposed vertical, there are also short sharp vertical pens, which are exposed at the front and then turned into the center to straighten the pen. This is the originality of Ou Kai;

Zhes - not making smooth turns, nor showing edges and corners, but with a decisive and implicit meaning;

Hooks - except for horizontal folds, hooks and strokes, big strokes Most of them do not make a return hook, but generally turn the front and hook it out based on the previous stroke. It has the meaning of square on the outside and round on the inside, soft and strong, and obviously has the meaning of Wei Monument;

Curved hook ——The center of gravity of the arc is stable and not skewed, and the curved hook has a slight official script style;

Vertical curved hook (goose hook)-basically inherits the writing style of official script, such as "九", "冠" ", "Jue", "Ye", "Yuan" and other words;

Tiao (Ti) - the writing is urgent, short, decisive, not sloppy, and reflects dignity and stability.

Another example is the character "Hai", which is obviously the official writing method of the character "Hai" in "Cao Quan Stele", except that the middle part is written as a vertical hook; the right part of the character "Ban" is directly inherited. The structure and writing style of official script; the characters "武", "元" and "风" inherit the structure and form of the writing style of Wei stele.

It can be seen from the inscription that the writer's pen was square and square, and he could see the danger in the squareness. The arrangement of calligraphy and painting is compact and well-proportioned, and the intervals are wide and stable. The shape of the characters is relatively long and slender, and the strokes seek stability amidst the danger. The left and right sides are facing each other, and the middle palace is tightened. The posture is thin, hard, free and agile, especially at the end of the stroke, and the stroke is lifted steadily. . The main strokes in the characters are long horizontal strokes, long strokes, goose hooks, etc., which are long and elongated. The distance between the middle palaces and the white space are appropriate, and the structure is tight and informal. The wording is strict, but sometimes there are slanting and dangerous strokes, full of curiosity.

The upright and oblique movements reflect each other, turning stillness into movement, and seeking the balance of force in leaning, pitching, restraining, backing each other, avoiding, and responding to changes, so as to achieve the state of "knowing the danger and returning to the straight".

The "Jiucheng Palace Stele" is elegant and simple, with strict laws and regulations. Every stroke has become a model for later generations. It is Ouyang Xun's representative work in his later years. "Jiucheng Palace Stele" has a very high status in the history of Chinese calligraphy. , has a profound impact on later generations, and is recognized as an excellent model and a rare calligraphy research textbook in history.

Out of respect for the "Jiucheng Palace Stele", as a lover of literature and calligraphy, I have an elegant interest in it, and I collected the classic blessing sentences in it, "Luxury and prosperity, extending my life." , write an exercise and share it with everyone.

Note: "褳褤" (wēi ruí) originally means lush vegetation with drooping branches and leaves. It is extended to mean a prosperous family and a prosperous career. "Fanzhi" means prosperity and happiness (zhi, well-being). "Wei Rui Fan Zhi" means: a happy family, a prosperous population, and a prosperous career. "Xia Ling" is an honorific for the elderly to live longer.
