Irish background story:
Ireland in the 9th century
In the early Middle Ages, Ireland was a collection of many small countries that were constantly at war with each other. The High Kingship of Ireland (High Kingship of Ireland), also known as the Kingship of Tara (Kingship of Tara), is the constant object of competition between the north and the south of Ireland. The royal power also changed hands many times between the two branches of the royal family - the "Uí Néill" in the north and the "Uí Néill" in the south. After seizing power, Ulster would be the center of rule in the north, while the center of rule in the south would be the Kingdom of Meath.
The Dane invasion of Ireland in the 9th century created some opportunities for the unification of the divided Ireland. Many Christian Irish were forced to unite against their common enemy. In 866, High King _ed Finnliath led the Irish to successfully drive the Vikings out of northern Ulster, but then the Irish fell into wars with each other.
Flann Sinna
Flann Sinna's father, Máel Sechnaill, represented the "Uí Néill" of the south. He served as high king of Ireland and finally died in 862. After that, the throne of High King passed to the north. Flann's cousin_ed Finnliath inherited the throne, married Flann's mother, and became his stepfather (and of course still a cousin). This is an unusual event from today's perspective, but at the time it was customary to marry an uncle or his widow.
Flann didn't like the new father very much, and the result was that the north and the south kept fighting each other. His path to the throne was anything but peaceful. He murdered the child of his father's cousin Donnchad mac Eochocain - the king who ruled Mead and the then head of the house of "Ui Neill" in the south - and then became the new king of Mead. _ed After Finnliath's death in 879, Flann became the new High King of Ireland. It was at this time that Eivor intervened in the situation throughout Ireland. Eivor will help Flan successfully complete his coronation and help him fight everywhere.
Although the relationship between the previous kings and the Vikings was very poor, Flann was willing to cooperate with the Vikings and fight alongside the Vikings who were driven south by _ed Finnliath. These Dan allies did help a lot. Flann's rule was violent and the whole of Ireland was always shrouded in plunder and war, but it still lasted for 36 years. At some point, his own sons rebelled against him. Flann finally died in 916, and the throne was succeeded by _ed Finnliath's son Niall Glundub.
Bárid mac _mair
Players will meet Eivor's cousin Bárid, who is also a Norse, but is now the king of Dublin. At that time, Dublin was invaded and ruled by the Vikings and was not Irish territory. Bárid was the son of Imar, a Viking raider who founded the Ivar dynasty and built Dublin into a Norse settlement. Some scholars believe that this Ivar and the "Boneless One" Ivar are the same person, but they are definitely not the same person in "Assassin's Creed: Hall of Valor".
In "Druid's Wrath", Bárid has a close relationship with _ed Finnliath, which may be why Flann Sinna has been unable to trust him.
Sichfrith mac _mair
Bárid's son Sichfrith will also appear in "Druid's Wrath", but in fact, Sichfrith and Bárid are brothers. Sichfrith inherited the identity of ruler from his brother, but when he ruled Dublin, he mainly faced disputes between different Viking clans: some were allied with the southern "Uí Néill", and some lived further south. Sichfrith was later killed by his own relatives in 888, and the throne was succeeded by his surviving brother Sitriuc. Translator: Suspicious cause of death
The following is a close-up of Bárid
"The Book of Kells"
In the early stages of the plot of "Wrath of the Druid", Eivor is sent to recover the Book of Kells from a mysterious cult. In fact, the Book of Kells is an illuminated manuscript containing the four Gospels of the New Testament written in Latin. At Eivor's time, the Book of Kells was only a few decades old and was vital to Christians in Ireland - High King Flann Sinna was no exception. The Book of Kells is considered a masterful example of Western calligraphy, considered one of Ireland's national treasures, and named after the Abbey of Kells, which existed for centuries.
The Hill of Tara
The Hill of Tara is an ancient ceremonial site near Dublin and the place where the High Kings of Ireland were crowned. It was here that Eivor first met Flann Sinna. Monuments dating back to the Neolithic period are preserved here, such as the "Lia Fáil", also known as the "Stone of Destiny", a standing stone under which all kings were crowned.
