Why is Xuyi called Xuyi: Xuyi is named after Xuyi Mountain in the territory.
Xu" means to open the eyes, and "癙" means to raise the eyes. The city is built on a mountain, so you can see far. Xuyi is the "good way" of the ancient Wu Kingdom. The Wu pronunciation is different from the Zhongtu pronunciation. It is derived from the Wu pronunciation. The sound of "Shan Dao" was changed to "Xuyi".
Xuyi first appeared in the "Spring and Autumn Annals" of the State of Lu during the Zhou Dynasty. Sima Qian said in "Historical Records: The Family of Confucius". It was compiled by Confucius. However, Xuyi was not called Xuyi at that time, but Shandao or Shandao. At the latest, it was called Xutai in the Qin Dynasty. "Historical Records" says: "Yin Xuyi"
Han Dynasty. It was still called Xutai at the beginning, and was called Xuyi after Emperor Yuanshou of the Han Dynasty, with the same sound. It was renamed Xutai in the Eastern Han Dynasty, and restored to Xuyi in the Jin Dynasty. It was also called Duliang from the emergence of Shandao to the final determination of Xuyi. About 850 years and four iterations; it can be said to be a long evolution process.
Introduction to Xuyi:
Xuyi County is a beautiful mountain city with rolling hills on three sides. On one side is the rippling Huaihe River, with lush trees on the mountain, dense reeds on the tidal flats below, and pleasant scenery.
There are ten beautiful peaks in the city: No. 1 Mountain, Shanggui Mountain, Tiantai Mountain, Among them, the first mountain is located in the center, surrounded by mountains like stars over the moon. Originally named Duliang Mountain, it was also called Nanshan because it was located to the south of the Huai River. According to legend, Mi Fu, a great calligrapher of the Northern Song Dynasty, once sailed south from Bianjing (now Kaifeng City, Henan Province). There were plains all the way. When he entered Huaihe from Bian, he first saw Nanshan. I wrote a poem with great interest: "After thousands of miles away from Beijing and Luo, the bow of the ship emerges from the green screen of Bian. Not to mention Henghuo Chongxingdou, it is the first mountain in the southeast. "And three masters wrote "First Mountain" in handwriting, which was tied to the stone. From then on, people began to call Nanshan "First Mountain".
Today, First Mountain still has inscriptions by famous writers from all dynasties since the Northern Song Dynasty. Su Dongpo, Mi Fu, He Zhu, Yang Wanli, etc. left poems here. Various calligraphy styles such as Zheng, Cao, Li, and Zhuan and different styles of calligraphy have also been preserved. Through the ages, many people have made rubbings of them. Regarded as a treasure, the "Calligraphy" magazine once set up a special page to introduce it. Because of its preciousness, the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government once again listed it as a provincial key cultural relic for protection.
