Wang Lanfang’s gladiolus blossoms

The gladiolus blooms - a female calligrapher who relentlessly pursues art

I have known Ms. Wang Lanfang for more than ten years. She is a member of the Calligraphers Association of our province. , a researcher at the Shaanxi Painting and Calligraphy Art Research Institute. Currently working at Weiyang People's Broadcasting Station, responsible for the station's chief editor's office and broadcasting department. Pen name: Gladiolus. Her calligraphy works are just like the meaning of the pen name given to her by her teacher. Like gladiolus, the flowers are graceful and charming, the leaves are resolute and free, and the character is still there. It will take you to a place of elegance, dignity and grandeur. , the realm of ancient and clumsy beauty. She has loved the art of calligraphy since she was a child and has been writing calligraphy for decades. Her persistence and perseverance to reach new heights are admirable. Over the years, she has participated in various national, provincial and municipal competitions and won many awards. His works have been published in newspapers, magazines, and online, and have been given as gifts abroad. They have been collected by many overseas institutions and friends in Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the United States. His works have been included in the "Dictionary of Representative Works by Contemporary Famous Calligraphers and Painters", "Selected Works of Calligraphy, Painting and Photography Works by Chinese Employees", "Collections of Celebrities in Chinese Calligraphy and Painting", "Collection of Works of the First China Red Journey "Jinggangshan Cup" Literary and Art Grand Prix", " Books such as "Collection of Outstanding Works of the National Calligraphy and Painting Competition of Mao Zedong's Poetry", "Chinese Dragon Code", "Dictionary of Shaanxi Cultural Celebrities", "Collection of Award-winning Works of the National Calligraphy Invitational Competition in Memory of Founding Chairman Mao Zedong". He was awarded honorary titles such as "One Hundred Chinese Contemporary Painting and Calligraphy Artists", "Famous Chinese Contemporary Painting and Calligraphy Master", and "Artist with both Virtue and Art". She was transferred back to Xi'an in 1984. When she was working at the Miyuan Missile Academy, she used her spare time to go to the Sanyuan County Cultural Center to learn calligraphy from Teacher Lu Zhao (later the director of the Miyuan Museum). After being transferred back to Xi'an, she became a disciple of the calligrapher Mr. Yu Jinghuan, who gave her the pen name Gladiolus, hoping that her future calligraphy would be as soft and strong as the gladioli flower. At that time, the child was just over 1 year old, her husband worked out of town, and there was no one to take care of her at home. However, no matter it was windy, rainy, or scorching hot or cold, she still took her child on a bicycle from the northern suburbs to the southern suburbs to learn calligraphy from the teacher's house. Unfortunately, Teacher Yu passed away suddenly in 1990. At that time, she was very sad and heartbroken to lose a good and highly respected teacher. However, she was lucky. After being introduced by her master's wife (Mrs. Yu Jinghuan), she became a disciple of Mr. Chen Zeqin. In his early years, Mr. Chen became famous in the Three Qin Dynasties for his running script. Later, he used chicken hair as official script and found his own way. Mr. Chen has profound thoughts, high talents, exquisite brushwork, and rich meaning. He has created a new realm of original calligraphy and is indeed the leading scholar in today's calligraphy world. Under the instruction of Mr. Chen, she studied hard and seriously, and her calligraphy has made a qualitative leap since then.

People know that the pen, one of the four treasures of the study, is made of various animal hairs. Commonly used ones include sheep hair, wolf hair, badger hair, jian hair, etc., but people who use chicken hair to write calligraphy Rarely, because it is very arbitrary, difficult to control, and difficult to produce results, it is not favored by calligraphers. However, when your skill reaches a certain level and you are able to control it, the words you write will be amazing. The natural and unique jerky, smooth and free lines will give you a beautiful enjoyment.

Lan Fang has a cheerful personality, but is also very stubborn. She thinks: If the teacher can write such good works using chicken hair, is it difficult for her to not use chicken hair to write books? While following the teacher's instructions, she carefully studied a large number of Chinese steles to draw nourishment from them. In order to prevent the official script from becoming mediocre and dull, she also softened some seal script brushwork into the official script and used chicken hair as the official script to make the work solemn and steady. Without losing its liveliness and cuteness. At the end of 2007, the Propaganda Department of the Municipal Party Committee, the Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the Municipal Calligraphers Association held the "Xi'an Female Calligrapher's Works Exhibition" at the Provincial Art Museum. Her eight-foot-wide four-screen official calligraphy was framed as a whole, and the tone of the work was harmonious. The fonts are harmoniously matched, the writing is flexible, the characters are ancient, and the composition is beautiful, which is pleasing to the eye. After reading the work, Lei Zhenmin, chairman of the Provincial Calligraphy Association, said: Not bad, just write it in a down-to-earth manner... Her calligraphy was affirmed and praised by the leaders and visitors present. Lanfang is a person with a strong sense of responsibility in her workplace. When Taiwan leaders introduce her to others, they always say that she is a "workaholic." However, outside of work, her passion is calligraphy. She has been like this for decades. Although she has achieved certain results, she has never made it public. When people see her works, they are surprised, but when they are surprised, they are filled with admiration. Because without a certain amount of perseverance and a passionate pursuit of art, today’s results would not have been achieved.

You can always see her in a hurry. Every year before the Spring Festival, she will brave the cold in front of the Weiyang District Government to write Spring Festival couplets for everyone to send warmth, dedicating her love and doing her meager efforts. She uses her own practical actions to promote the art of Chinese calligraphy and return what she has learned over the past few decades to the society. When people praised her, she always said modestly: "There is no limit to art, and I'm still far behind. I only learn calligraphy to cultivate my sentiments, cultivate my character, and improve my cultural accomplishment. I have never thought of fame or fortune. I just want to develop a skill." , serving the company and friends, as long as you enjoy it, it is enough." She is such a person, just like her teacher, she does things in a high profile and behaves in a low profile, which is really admirable.

For more than ten years, I have been happy for Lan Fang when I saw every progress she made in the art of calligraphy. She loves calligraphy and the traditional art of the Chinese nation. She uses calligraphy to cultivate and practice herself. In addition to doing her job seriously and responsibly, she has no time to go shopping and relax. Instead, she hides in her humble room and works hard. It is really valuable to study the inscriptions on stele and study the art of calligraphy assiduously.

May Lanfang reach a higher level in the art of calligraphy, and may Gladiolus bloom more, more beautiful, and more refreshing flowers. (Author: Dong Jianping, director of Shaanxi Calligraphers Association and vice chairman of Xi'an Calligraphers Association)
