What achievements has Wang Xizhi made in calligraphy?
Wang Xizhi, a calligrapher in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, was a meticulous calligrapher. In his early years, he studied under Mrs. Wei (Jing), and later changed to a beginner. He studied in cursive script under Zhang Zhi and in orthography under Zhong You. He learned from others and studied the style of writing, changing the concise style of calligraphy since the Han and Wei Dynasties into a beautiful and convenient new style. His books are well-prepared in all kinds of styles, especially good at upright brushwork and powerful changes in characters, which have been advocated by scholars of all ages and have great influence. There are many inscriptions in the book, which can be found in articles carved since the Song Dynasty. The running script is the most complete one in the Preface to the Holy Teaching collected by Tang Yan Huairen. Cursive script includes seventeen posts and so on. There is no original, only the Tang Dynasty running scripts such as Aunt, Fengju, Funeral, Kong Shizhong and cursive script "Early Moon" are filled in.
