Zi Shiyi, the master of Baochongzhai, was born in July 1938 in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. In 1955, he was admitted to the Department of History of Nankai University. In 1957, he transferred to the Department of Art History of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Half a year later, he transferred to the Department of Chinese Painting. After graduating in 1962, he was assigned to work in the Museum of Chinese History. He followed Shen Congwen in compiling and drawing materials on costumes of past dynasties in China, and copied outstanding works. There are many paintings. In 1978, he was transferred to the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts to teach. In 1984, he was transferred to the Oriental Art Department of Nankai University in Tianjin and served as the department director. He has donated more than 3 million yuan to build this department. He is a member of the Chinese Artists Association. He is good at Chinese figure painting, poetry and calligraphy. "Songs of Spiritual Road" and others are collected in the Okayama Hozen Art Museum in Japan, "Eight Immortals" and others are collected in the National Art Museum of China, and "Ode to the Sound of Autumn" are collected in the Birmingham Museum in the United States. Published are "Lu Xun's Novel Illustration Collection", "Fan Zeng's Calligraphy and Painting Collection", "Fan Zeng's Painting Collection", "Fan Zeng Yin Cao", "Fan Zeng's Calligraphy and Painting Collection", "Fan Zeng's Embrace", "Fan Zeng's Autobiography", etc. In 1979, he visited Japan for the first time and was praised by Japan as "one of the top ten painters in modern China". In 1982, he won the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Commemorative Cup, and in 1986, he won the Japan-China Art Exchange Special Contribution Gold Medal.
