Liu Lin, a native of Weishan County, Shandong Province, is a member of the Chinese Calligraphy Association, vice chairman of the Jining Calligraphy Association, and chairman of the Weishan County Calligraphy Association. Liu Lin did not come from a major, but he has been passionate about calligraphy since he was a child and has distinguished himself in youth book fairs many times. It was already the 1980s when the spring breeze of reform and opening up melted the ice on Weishan Lake. Weishan County Arts and Crafts Factory came into being. The county government is thinking about using Weishan's special products to produce handicrafts and engage in cultural industries to develop the economy. In 1985, it will recruit some workers. Mr. Shui Yujun, a technician at the craft factory, is responsible for the recruitment. At that time, Mr. Shui was a well-known local calligrapher. There was a saying that "Look at the signboard of Weishan to see the emperor Yu". He was responsible for recruiting workers, and calligraphy became an important recruitment condition, so Liu Lin won the first prize in the examination. What people didn't expect was that in 1987, Liu Lin married Mr. Shui's daughter. I don’t know whether it was Mr. Shui who chose a son-in-law in the name of recruiting workers under the false pretense of public service, or whether Liu Lin was pursuing Mr. Shui’s daughter in order to obtain the true calligraphy biography. From a historical perspective, Mr. Shui Yujun probably intended to imitate fellow countryman Xi Gong, right?
Liu Lin's calligraphy is good at both formal calligraphy and cursive writing. Study the famous masters of the past dynasties, learn from the strengths of all the masters, accommodate personal temperament, and follow the law according to the mood. In his early years, he started with Ouyang Xun, Ou Ti Yan Gai, and also studied the epitaphs of the Northern Wei Dynasty, and benefited a lot. Later, he studied under Mr. Zhang Hai. His calligraphy style is steady and unrestrained, dignified but not lacking in craftsmanship. His large-scale regular script works have regular dotting, thick lines, rigorous structure, open layout, concentrated naturalness, and smooth breath, so they are highly appreciated by both elegance and vulgarity. Laymen look at it and say: the writing is regular, thick and grand; experts comment on his skill, school and composition, calling it: majestic, virtual and real, black and white. Once, I accompanied Mr. Wang Zhongwu, the famous Chinese calligrapher, and others as they came out of Weishan Lake Hotel. I pointed to the sign written by the post and telecommunications office opposite. Mr. Wang Zhongwu, who likes to find faults, praised repeatedly and said: Henan calligraphy school has a great future! I told Liu Lin Wang Zhongwu’s evaluation and added my own insights. I said: Calligraphy is an art, and its biggest feature compared with other arts is that it has a broad mass appeal. The quality of a calligraphy work depends on the benevolent and the wise.
