Architectural characteristics of Yongning Chenghuang Temple

Yongning Chenghuangmiao plot faces south, with a building area of 1.407 square meters and an area of 2,800 square meters. Based on the central axis, it consists of the gatehouse, the front hall, the stage, the worship pavilion, the main hall and the left and right wings. The main hall is five rooms wide and three rooms deep. There is a eaves building in front of the temple, with a beam and wood structure. Both the front and rear halls are double-eaved roofs, and the rest are single-eaved roofs. In addition to offering sacrifices to the Lord of the city god, there are nearly 100 statues of twenty-four divisions, four generals, three ladies, service officials and officials in the temple, which is the epitome of a feudal dynasty state government. It is a rare large-scale and well-preserved city god temple in southern Fujian.

The architectural art structure of Yongning Chenghuang Temple is neat and exquisite. His calligraphy, couplets, wood carvings, stone carvings and brick carvings are all from the hands of famous Ming and Qing dynasties. The four stone characters of "fortitude" and "popularity" on both sides of the gatehouse are impressive in their vigorous and dignified calligraphy. The Qing Dynasty stone lions on both sides of Baiting Pavilion are lifelike and exquisitely carved, which can be called fine stone carving. There are still Daoguang stele and stele preface in the temple, which has important reference value for studying the history of Fujian-Taiwan relations in Qing Dynasty.

Yongning City God Temple is a typical building of its kind in Fujian Province because of its magnificent architecture and complete regulations, which has a great influence in southern Fujian, Taiwan Province Province and Southeast Asia. 1February, 1996, it was listed as the fourth batch of provincial cultural relics protection units by Fujian Provincial People's Government.
