Wen Zhengming (1470-1559) was first named Bi, with the courtesy name Huiming. Later, he changed his courtesy name to Xing, changed his courtesy name to Zhengzhong, and took the nickname Hengshan. His father Wenlin was the governor of Wenzhou. Wen Huiming received a good cultural education since childhood. He studied literature from Wu Kuan, calligraphy from Li Yingzhen, and painting from Shen Zhou. His poetry and calligraphy are as high-achieving as his paintings. He is an artist with profound artistic accomplishment and comprehensive development.
