Song Xiang (1757 ~ 1826) was born in Jiayingfu, Guangdong Province (now Meixian District, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province). In the middle of Qing Dynasty, he was a famous poet, calligrapher, educator, and an honest official with a clean political voice. He was born in poverty and studied hard under the influence of his family. When he was young, he made his mark in poetry couplets and was called "the first genius in Lingnan". "Biography of the Draft of Qing History" said that "Cantonese poetry only regards Xiang as a giant".
