Where does the phrase "tolerance is great, but no desire is strong" come from?

"All rivers run into the sea, with great tolerance; The wall stands thousands of miles, and there is no desire. " This sentence comes from a couplet written by Lin Zexu, a politician in the late Qing Dynasty, when he was governor of Guangdong and Guangxi.

It means: the sea contains hundreds of rivers because of its wide measurement; The mountain is so tall and straight because there is no worldly desire to intrigue. The last words of couplets-"Da" and "Gang" imply that this noble spirit is the greatest and strongest, and also show the author's supreme integrity.

The generosity and honest and frank of this "swing" comes from "no desire". This feeling of tolerance and "no desire" and lofty spirit are indispensable elements of mental health.

At the same time, he personally contacted foreigners, inquired about Britain from visiting American businessman C·W· King, missionary and merchant captain who destroyed opium in Humen, Elijah Coleman Bridgman, and got in touch with British sailors to understand Britain's views on smoking ban, with a very close attitude.

Then he wrote another letter to Queen Victoria, which was brought to London by Thomas Ge's owner, but the British Foreign Office rejected it and it was published in The Times. On the first day of December (1840 1.5), Lin zexu took over as the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi.
