What do ancient Qin, Qi, calligraphy and painting mean?

Chyi Chin's calligraphy and painting, also known as the "Four Arts", refers to guqin, Weiqi (chess for short), calligraphy and painting, which are the four major arts admired and mastered by ancient scholars in China.

Conceptual traceability

As early as the Tang Dynasty, Zhang Yanyuan called it "Qin, Qi, calligraphy and painting". However, the concept of "four arts" appeared relatively late. According to textual research, the earliest written record of combining piano, chess, books and paintings into "four arts" is "Suiyuan" written by Li Yu in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. The earliest reliable records of Go can be found in Zuozhuan in the Spring and Autumn Period. Qiu Yi in the Warring States Period was the first chess player found in history books.
