In the 21st year of Kaiyuan (733 AD) of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, Zhang Jiuling, who was the prime minister at the time, was slandered and ostracized by Li Linfu and others, and was finally dismissed from the prime minister in the 24th year of Kaiyuan (736 AD). He was demoted to the position of governor of Jing. After Zhang Jiuling arrived in Jingzhou, he missed his relatives and friends in Chang'an, so on a moonlit night, he wrote the poem "Looking at the Moon and Huaiyuan". The original text is as follows:
The bright moon rises on the sea, and the end of the world is at this time.
Lovers complain about the distant night, but they start to miss each other at night.
When the candle is extinguished, it is filled with pity and light, and when I put on my clothes, I feel the dew.
I can't bear to give away gifts, but I still have a good night's sleep.
"A bright moon rises on the sea, and at this time at the end of the world." A bright moon rises on the vast sea. Although we are separated by the world, we are enjoying the bright moon together. At that time, when the poet was in Jingzhou, it was impossible to see the bright moon rising from the sea. This was the poet's association after seeing the bright moon. The poet placed the bright moon in a vast space, which not only corresponds to the "looking at the moon" in the title, but also expresses the meaning of "thousands of miles away from the beautiful moon". When the poet looked up at the bright moon, he thought that his relatives and friends thousands of miles away were also admiring the bright moon. He used the technique of "writing opposite" to express the deep feelings between the poet and his relatives and friends although they were thousands of miles apart.
"Lovers complain about the distant night, but they miss each other at night." Emotional people resent this long moonlit night, get up from bed, and look at the moon all night long for their relatives and friends. In this couplet, the poet refers to himself as "lover". He is originally a person with rich emotions and a sensitive heart. External objects can easily touch his emotions. The bright moon in front of him even more touches his longing. . As a result, the poet missed his relatives and friends far away, so much that he could not sleep all night, and even resented the long moonlit night. The poet no longer conceals his inner emotions, but directly expresses his longing for his distant friends with words such as "resentment" and "lovesickness".
"Put out the candles and feel the full moonlight, put on your clothes and feel the dew." I put out the candles and felt the full moonlight in the room, put on my clothes and wandered outside, where the dew wetted my clothes. The poet had insomnia. He extinguished the candles in the room and tried to fall asleep, but found that it was in vain. When the candles were extinguished, the bright moonlight filled the room. The moonlight was so lovely, so the poet gave up trying to fall asleep, put on his clothes, walked outside, and admired the bright moon in the sky. Unknowingly, the dew wet his clothes. This implies from the side that the poet spent a long time outdoors, showing the deep longing in his heart.
"I can't bear to give it away, but I still have a good night's sleep." There is no way to hold up a handful of silver moonlight and give it to the relatives and friends I miss. I only hope that we can meet each other in our dreams. Looking at the moonlight in the courtyard, the poet had a novel and beautiful idea. He wanted to pick up a handful of moonlight and send it to his relatives and friends in the distance to comfort his longing. However, the poet understands that no matter how hard he tries, the moonlight will "shine with its afterglow, but it will not be full", and there is no way to hold up the moonlight. Therefore, the poet had no choice but to settle for the next best thing and place his hope of meeting in dreams. The poem ends abruptly, but the poet's feelings are endless.
The moon is the most able to arouse people's feelings of longing, such as "Looking up at the bright moon, bowing down to miss my hometown" "Tonight in Yanzhou, I can only look at the moon in my boudoir" "Tonight in the bright moon, people can look at it, but they don't know their thoughts about autumn. Whose family will it fall into?" When I miss you, I am glad that there is only one moon. No matter how far apart we are, we look up to the same bright moon, such as "I hope people will live forever, thousands of miles away *** Chan Juan" and "Thousands of miles apart *** "Mingyue" and so on, the bright moon has become a medium for people thousands of miles apart to communicate with each other. Although you can't really grab a handful of moonlight and send it to someone far away, it is also a romantic thing to think about the two people facing the bright moon and having the same mind.
