Yu Shinan (558-638), whose name is Boshi, was born in Yuyao, Zhejiang Province, and was one of the four great calligraphers in the early Tang Dynasty. Since childhood, I have studied calligraphy with monk Zhiyong. The so-called "winning a true biography in the mountains and rivers" means that he is convinced of Wang Tangzhi's brushwork. It was valued by Emperor Taizong and Li Shimin. Since the Tang Dynasty, emperors have followed the example of Wang Xizhi's calligraphy style. Emperor Taizong once "asked Wang Xizhi's calligraphy with gold and silk, and the world was vying for ancient books, and the idea was to offer them". Yu's calligraphy was inherited more than created, and Yu Shinan was knowledgeable, frank and loyal, so he was deeply favored. Emperor Taizong vowed to learn from Wang Xizhi and learn from Yu Shinan, which shows his influence. There are different comments on "Yu Ti" in later generations. His pen is round and square, soft on the outside and rigid on the inside, with little carving or anger, and it has its own style of writing, while his cursive script is almost the direct biography of Wang Tang's cursive script.
