You Zuo, aged 46 (1099), was appointed as a contract judge in Quanzhou. In order to carry forward Fujian culture, he abandoned his official position and returned to his hometown. He built a thatched cottage at the foot of Jianshan Mountain in Heping, Jianyang County, where he wrote articles such as The Doctrine of the Mean, Mencius and The Analects of Confucius. Zhu worshiped Youzuo and was deeply influenced by Youzuo Neo-Confucianism. Zhu quoted many words from Zuo Zhuan in Notes on Four Books. Therefore, the formation of Zhu's neo-Confucianism system was influenced by You Zuohe. Youzuo and Shi Yang have made great contributions to spreading Luoxue and initiating Minxue, which can be called "the originator of Minxue". Fujian people remembered him and scholars worshipped him, so they built an ancestral temple in Wushan, Fuzhou.
