During my teaching, I found that most of the writing tools in our college students' hands still use gel pens and ballpoint pens. Under my advocacy, many students have feelings for pens. And to be honest, as long as you really practice writing for a month or two, you will like pens. Then the charm, cultural flavor and practicality of pens are far better than ballpoint pens and gel pens, but most students still don't use them.
So since we can't completely change them and force them to use pens, let's work hard on ballpoint pens and gel pens. I have long said that ballpoint pen is not good, because it is suitable for writing horizontal lines such as English, but it can never be used for square Chinese characters and cannot stand out. But gel pens are another matter. In this respect, I found a calligraphy teacher from other provinces online, named Zhang Beimo, whose surname should be Zhang. Beimo is his pen name, and the gel pen is particularly good. I studied it for a period of time, and then combined with my experience of more than ten years, I synthesized a series of opinions. So here's a summary.
When practicing the first gel pen, you should use 0.5 thick, not 0.7 and needle, because the latter can write tiny words, but it is really not conducive to practice. The thickness of 0.5 is similar, that is, 1 dot.
The second point is that it is more troublesome to bend these basic strokes horizontally and vertically when practicing, especially when practicing regular script, because the pen can come out directly by pressing it, and with a little practice, it can write better results under more appropriate circumstances, while the gel pen needs skills to write. Please refer to my pictures and notes when practicing. The key point is to press the leading edge corner obliquely and then pull it over. Finally, you have to pull down diagonally to the right, so that you can completely achieve the effect of pen writing, and then you can do it vertically.
The third point is that his hooks, including lifting hooks and horizontal bending hooks, are particularly troublesome. Because in order to achieve the effect of pen writing, gel pen must be folded in half at the end of writing, and then folded back to write that kind of beautiful handwriting.
So you see, writing regular script, we think that gel pen is more difficult only in this way, so it consumes more efficiency and time and energy. In contrast, words and deeds can directly produce that effect, so the running script can directly use a gel pen.
The above are some methods about gel pens. Of course, it doesn't matter if you get used to it. These special skills are unexpected and useless without special study and exploration.
