What do you think of Wang Yong's calligraphy?

China's calligraphy has been in two directions since ancient times. One is calligraphy represented by the two kings, whose calligraphy style is mainly beautiful and elegant, which is easy to cater to people's visual aesthetics. The other is the study of steles represented by Yan Zhenqing, whose calligraphy style can be summarized by a "strong". But calligraphy actually has another direction, that is, Confucian classics, represented by Dunhuang remnants. Many of Wang Yong's calligraphy skills come from here.

It is true that Wang Yong's unique writing style makes it difficult to feel "beauty" visually, so it is classified as an ugly book by many people. Ertian specifically criticized Wang Yong, saying that people represented by him made modern calligraphy a mess. Personally, our modern calligraphy should be based on the orthodox calligraphy style since Wei, Jin, Tang and Song Dynasties, especially for beginners. Wang Yong's calligraphy should not be touched, because without a deep foundation, it is easy to get possessed. But it should also be inclusive, inclusive of bold innovators like Wang Yong and Shen Peng. I really appreciate a sentence from teacher Cao Baolin: "We don't like ugly books, but we should also be able to accept this new thing".
