Influenced by his scholarly family, he loved China's calligraphy, constantly studied Wei and Tang Kaifa, and dabbled in bronze inscriptions. He has a special interest in famous inscriptions such as Two Kings in Jin Dynasty, Yan in Tang Dynasty, Wu Dayou in Qing Dynasty, and grandfather Hu Zhuo (Hanlin in the Reform Movement of 1898).
Thanks to the long-term guidance of Mr. Qi Gong and famous calligraphers such as Liu Bingsen, Kang Yong and Su Shizhu, calligraphy has continuously reached a new level, and his works have participated in national calligraphy competitions such as "China-Japan Friendship Calligraphy Competition" and "CCTV National Calligraphy Grand Prix" for more than ten times and won prizes. Many works have been collected by institutions or individuals in China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, Switzerland, Russia and Germany.
Hu Qi has served as a judge of many national calligraphy competitions such as CCTV National Calligraphy Grand Prix. He is the author of "Reading Posts and Writing", "Hard Pen Calligraphy 12 Lecture" and other books. And newspapers such as World Information, Beijing Evening News and Youth Calligraphy all have special articles introducing his works or his career path.
