The official font of the Song Dynasty is: Songti
Songti has already been produced in the Song Dynasty, but it is not mature. Moreover, the Song Dynasty advocated the Yanti, Liuti and European fonts that imitated calligraphy fonts. Woodblock printing appeared in the Song Dynasty in China. Since each edition of Chinese books at that time was printed with two pages, rectangular wood blocks were used for engraving and plate making. Wooden boards have wood grain, which is generally horizontal. The horizontal lines of the carved characters are consistent with the wood grain and are relatively strong; but the vertical lines of the carved characters cross the wood grain and are easy to break. Therefore, the vertical lines of the font are thicker and the horizontal lines are thinner. Horizontal lines, even if they are strong, tend to fray at the ends, so they are thicker at the ends. This resulted in a Song-style font that is thick vertically and thin horizontally, with a thicker point at the end of the horizontal line. 2. Until the Ming Dynasty, due to economic factors, Song fonts, which occupied a smaller space, gradually became popular. Because this font lacked the artistry of change, it was criticized by Ming Dynasty literati as "Craftsman fonts". Song-style characters spread eastward to Japan, where they were called Ming Dynasty characters. Today it has become the mainstream printing font in the Chinese character culture circle. 3. After modern printing was introduced to China, Chinese people have been accustomed to reading books printed in Song font for more than a thousand years, so modern typefaces are also printed in Song font. Later, based on the black and italic styles of Western writing, black and imitated Song fonts were also created in Chinese printing. 4. Song font is the most widely used font in the printing industry. According to the different shapes of the characters, it is divided into writing the Song Dynasty and reporting the Song Dynasty. Songti is a printing font that originated from the woodblock printing in the Song Dynasty. Song font has a square shape, horizontal and vertical strokes, thin horizontal and thick vertical strokes, sharp edges and corners, rigorous structure, neat and even, and strong regularity of strokes, which makes people feel comfortable and eye-catching when reading. In modern printing, it is mainly used for the text part of books or newspapers. 5. The Song Dynasty "promoted culture and education and suppressed martial arts", and culture showed unprecedented prosperity. The printing and publishing industry entered a golden age in the Song Dynasty. Block printing flourished, book engraving centers developed rapidly, and movable type printing was invented. A large number of copies of the Song version were reproduced in the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, and the Song style characters were established in the Ming Dynasty. Song-style characters are easy to write and engrave, and the fonts are beautiful and dignified. They adapted to the operational requirements of the printing and publishing industry and became a witness to the cultural perfection of the Song Dynasty. 6. The combination of Chinese calligraphy and woodblock printing produced Song-style characters. Therefore, Song-style characters not only have the charm of Chinese calligraphy, but also have the charm of woodblock printing and woodblock engraving.
