Dasi Temple has a history of more than 1,600 years and was known as "the first jungle in China" in ancient times. Daci Temple is famous for its murals. Wu Daozi of the Tang Dynasty, Li Sheng of the former Shu Dynasty, and Huang Quan of the later Shu Dynasty all painted murals here. The steles collected in the temple are also rich in calligraphy and ink. Su Shi praised it as "the most exquisite thing in the world". According to records, Master Xuanzang, a famous monk in the Tang Dynasty, received ordination and lectured here. There is a small Xuanzang Memorial Hall in the temple.

The Daci Temple in history was once grand in scale. The Daci Temple we see today was rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty. The stone plaque "Ancient Dashengci Temple" above the Shanmen Hall was engraved in the sixth year of Guangxu, more than 120 years ago. On the stone pillars of each hall, there are couplets written by Gu Fuchu and other famous figures in the Qing Dynasty.
