Wang Qi's self-sequence.

When I was young, I learned to write first, and then I learned to draw. The father is a calligrapher and has strict requirements for his children's calligraphy learning. I remember when I first went to school to write, my father used to quietly draw my brush behind me to see if I could hold the pen tightly. We are often taught by the old saying that "calligraphy is based on the use of pens, and we must work hard to complete the words." At first, I studied Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan in print and Zhao Ziang in print. Later, I learned regular script Wei Bei. After seeing Wang Xizhi's calligraphy in Fa Tie King James Sanxi Hall, he fell in love with this book sage. Since then, his regular script has been used as a model for me to learn.

For decades, no matter during my study and work, I have never neglected the exercise of calligraphy, and I have also made a lot of efforts in pen and ink. During the "Cultural Revolution", I wrote millions of words of inspection and external materials, all written in very neat imitation of the Song Dynasty. Even the propaganda staff of the Workers' Army once said at a meeting: "Wang Qi's handwriting on the confession materials is the best, just like typesetting and printing. He can't live without a job and can be a shop assistant. " 1952 when I participated in the ideological reform movement of the education system in Shanghai. I am the team leader, presiding over the meeting and taking notes by myself. Leading comrades think that my meeting record is the best among 3000 students. This is also my "honor" in calligraphy!

For nearly ten years, I have been practicing calligraphy while painting in ink. If it is not for special reasons, I will write one or two articles almost every day. Readers all over the world have written to me, demanding more words than paintings. Calligraphy and painting are not only homologous, but also identical. What kind of painting style, there is what kind of calligraphy style. My calligraphy and the style of my ink painting are also absolutely consistent. Some people say that my pen is as tough as a blade and has the power of black and white wood carving, and I readily agree. So I often use tough wolf hair instead of soft wool pen. But I am sure that different pen counties can write fonts with different styles and artistic effects according to their own characteristics to meet people's different aesthetic needs. When I spend a lot of money, I attach great importance to the structure of each building, and the coordination of the overall structure between single words and whole words. If a word is not well written, it will affect the overall situation, so that the whole calligraphy will not be abolished, at least it is not a masterpiece. In my calligraphy and painting homework in recent years, I have painted for ten days, one book or two or three books a day. When I started writing books in recent years, I was often overwhelmed by my old age, and I often left my expected ideas in my works, and sometimes there were some unexpected effects. But I still try to control the brush in my hand and try to move according to the inherent law of calligraphy itself. In any case, I can't let it develop to a grotesque extreme without its parent "words".
