Mi Fu’s explanation
Mi Fu (1051-1107): a calligrapher and painter of the Northern Song Dynasty. His first name was Fu, with the courtesy name Yuanzhang, his nicknames were Xiangyang Manshi, Haiyue Waishi, etc. His ancestral home was Taiyuan (now part of Shanxi), and he settled in Runzhou (now Zhenjiang, Jiangsu). An official in the Ministry of Rites, a member of the Foreign Ministry, went out to know the Huaiyang Army. He behaves strangely and is known as "Midian". Calligraphy, together with Su Shi, Huang Tingjian and Cai Xiang, is known as the "Four Calligraphers of the Song Dynasty". The pen is refreshing and bold.
