"There was nothing, why should it be contaminated with dust?" What are the first two sentences?

"Bodhi embankment without trees, the mirror is not Taiwan. Nothing, where is the dust? " Huineng is the sixth ancestor of Zen in China. The common surname is Lu, from Fanyang, Hebei (now Zhuoxian). His father was demoted to Xinzhou, Lingnan (now East of Xinxing County, Guangdong Province). In the 12th year of Tang Zhenguan (638), he was born in Xinzhou, Guangdong. Huineng lost his father when he was young, and later moved to the South China Sea. His family was poor and adopted his mother by selling firewood. One day when I was in town, I heard that someone in the inn recited the Diamond Sutra, which I quite understood. I asked where this sutra came from, and the guest told me that it was obtained from Hongren Zen Master in Fengmaoshan, Huangmeidong. Because of this, he has the ambition to seek a teacher. Xianhengchu (670), after settling his mother, went north. When I arrived in Caoxi, Shaozhou, I met the villager Liu Zhilve, led him to become a monk, and sought the Tao with Nirvana Sutra. Huineng said: Although I can't read, I still know its meaning. Tony said, how can you interpret the meaning if you can't read? Huineng said: All Buddhas are wonderful, and have nothing to do with words. I was shocked by his words, so I sued the old man in the village and asked Huineng to live in the local ancient temple and named him Lu Xing. Huineng lived in Baolin Temple soon, and then went to Lechang West Grottoes to learn Zen from Zen master Zhiyuan. Zhiyuan advised him to go to Tozenji in Huangmei (the temple is located in the east of Huangmei Twin Peaks, also known as Dongshan) to learn from Hongren. Huineng arrived in Huangshan Mountain in the third year of Xianheng (672). When Hongren saw him, he asked: Where did this laity come from and what did he want? Huineng said: I am from Lingnan, and I just want to become a Buddha! Hong Ren said: You are from Lingnan, and you are Li (as the Central Plains called the southern minorities at that time). How can I become a Buddha? ! Huineng said: people have north and south, and Buddhism has north and south? The Buddhist essence of a monk is no different from that of a monk. Monks can be Buddhists, but disciples should be Buddhists. Hongren then ordered him to work with the crowd and pound rice in the house. Huineng stayed in my room for eight months, when there were 700 Zen monks in Dongshan. Legend has it that one day, in order to test the depth of public meditation, Hongren prepared to pay for clothes and ordered everyone to do a test. At that time, Shen Xiu was the first in the crowd, that is, he said, "You are a bodhi tree, and your heart is like a mirror platform. Wipe hard and don't make dust. " By this time, the whole temple knew. After reading it, Hongren told the public: If future generations can practice according to this, they will also get results, and advised the public to recite it. Huineng heard the monk recite this poem in his room, and felt that it was not enough, so she changed it into a poem and asked someone to write it on the wall. Shu Yun: "Bodhi has no trees, and the mirror is not Taiwan; Originally, there was nothing (this sentence is a common record, and this sentence in the Dunhuang altar sutra is called "Buddhist purity"), where is the dust! " All the people were surprised to see this. Hong Ren saw it, that is, at night, called Huineng to try his Zen attainments, spread it in the mantle, and immediately sent him to Jiujiang Ferry. When he left, he was told to go to the south and hide for a while, waiting for the opportunity to change. So Huineng returned to Caoxi, Guangdong, and lived in seclusion between Sihui and Huaiji (now Huaiji County, Guangxi). Ten years later, she went to Hojoji, Guangzhou. Master Yi Yinzong talked about Nirvana Sutra, because there were two monks arguing about the wind at that time. One said that the wind was moving, and the other said that the wind was moving, and they were arguing endlessly. Huineng said, it's not the wind, it's not exercise, it's your heart! Everyone was surprised to hear that. Yin Zong pushed him to the supreme throne. I want to ask you what you mean, and Huineng can give a simple answer. Yinzong asked: I have heard for a long time that Huangmeiyi came to the south. Are you a traveler? Huineng showed off his mantle, and the Indian Sect rejoiced and praised him greatly, that is, he called all the generals to shave Huineng's hair under the bodhi tree of Huo Zhuoji. He also asked the famous lawyer De Guang Zhi to give him a foot ring (according to the law, the temple is now Guangxiao Temple in Guangzhou. There are six ancestral pagodas, bodhi trees, wind sutra halls and six ancestral halls in the temple. Two months later, Huineng opened a Zen gate for the public under the bodhi tree in the temple and said Prajna Paramita. Soon, Huineng resigned and returned to Caoxi Baolin Temple, where thousands of people from India and Taoism sent him away. At that time, Wei Kun, the secretariat of Shaozhou, admired his method, led his colleagues into the mountains, invited Huineng into the city, and made a statement in the lecture hall of Dafan Temple without giving them any warning. There are over a thousand monks and nuns who have collected Taoism and folk customs. Disciple Fahai catalogued his own French, and added it to the later French, that is, the Magic Tanjing (there are four books handed down in this world: Dunhuang, Huixin, Dede and Zongbao). Refer to the article "Magic Tanjing" in this book). Since then, Huineng has been lecturing at Baolin Temple in Caoxi for more than 30 years. In the meantime, Zhongzong once asked Huian and Shen Xiu to support him in the palace and asked about Zen. Both teachers said: In the south, there are capable Zen masters and near-forbearing masters, so you can inquire about them. In the first year of Shenlong (705), Xue Jian, assistant minister of the imperial palace in the middle sect, called him to Caoxi to enter Beijing. He stayed in the mountains for a long time. He was old and windy, but he didn't go. Xue Jian pleaded for a statement and brought the record back to life. Zhongzong gave Mona a collar and 500 silks as a support. He also ordered that Lin Bao be renamed Zhongxing Temple, rebuilt by Shaozhou Secretariat, endowed with the forehead of Dharma Body Temple, and named Huineng Xinzhou's former residence as Guo 'en Temple. In the first year of Yanhe River (7 12), Huineng returned to Xinzhou to stay temporarily, and the Ming people built a tower of gratitude. Born in the second year (7 13), he died at Guo 'en Temple in Xinzhou at the age of 76. Disciples and others greeted his body and returned to Cao's side. Master Xian (806-820) was the "Zen Master" in posthumous title, and Liu Zongyuan, the secretariat of Liuzhou, prefaced the Monument to the Zen Master of the Six Ancestors of Caoxi. In the 10th year of Yuanhe (8 15), Liu Yuxi wrote the Second Monument to Master Cao at the request of Taoist Cao. From Fa Liu to Huineng, so he is generally called the Master of Six Ancestors.
