Brush calligraphy paper

Look at the place of origin

The main producing areas of calligraphy and painting paper are Anhui, Sichuan, Xijiang and other places. Anhui Xuan paper has a long history and is the first choice for painters and painters. Followed by Sichuan paper, Xijiang not only produces rice paper, but also produces leather paper. Fu Baoshi and his son make good use of Wenzhou leather paper and Japanese leather paper.

Look at the process

Xuan paper can be divided into Xuan paper and drawing paper. The truly high-quality rice paper is a mixture of about 70% sandalwood bark and about 30% retted fiber. Its cost is very high, and it takes more than 100 procedures.

At present, there are only a few well-known brand factories in Jingxian County, Anhui Province. Most of other 100 small factories and workshops produce calligraphy and painting paper (generalized Xuan paper). Its raw material is Gracilaria lemaneiformis, generally without sandalwood fiber, and there are only fifty processes. Some factories also add 10% to 30% sandalwood fiber, and the other price is 200 to 300 yuan. Pure China Gracilaria lemaneiformis 100 yuan. The main raw material of Sichuan Xuan paper is bamboo fiber, and some of them are added with sandalwood bark, hemp bark and citric acid bark fiber.

Look at the characteristics

Really good rice paper, with good coat color, strong tensile force and repeated rendering resistance, is more common in brush strokes. Gracilaria lemaneiformis calligraphy and painting paper is loose, and some papers are dark after painting, which is not suitable for repeated dyeing. Paper is not about thickness, but about elasticity. Some calligraphy and painting papers are well made, and the ink color and tension are also good. Painting flowers and birds will have special effects. Painting landscapes is even worse. Landscape painting sometimes needs wet dyeing, and calligraphy and painting paper can't stand it and will get hairy. Because of the different tension, it will be drawn.

Xuan paper can be divided into raw Xuan and cooked Xuan. Raw rice paper can produce decorative effect, which is very suitable for writing calligraphy (lines, grass, etc. ). Cooked rice paper is coated with alum and bone glue, which does not melt, and is mainly used for meticulous painting, fine print and so on. Sichuan paper is worse than Anhui paper, and it feels a little half-baked. Leather paper is different from rice paper. In the past, because it was thick and thin, it was not suitable for repeated inking, otherwise it would be blunt. At present, the leather paper is made fine, and the surface is sometimes difficult to distinguish from rice paper. Because the fiber is thick, ink will seep out like a small ink line when it touches water. Some painters use it to draw liger, and the effect is good. Some calligraphers use it to write running script, which can also play a special role. Of course, we must grasp it carefully.

Raw rice paper can be divided into clean skin and cotton paper. It is not suitable for large-scale rendering of clean skin, because there will be colorless glue marks between each stroke. If you spray it wet before painting, it can be avoided. However, landscape painting mostly uses clean leather paper, which is relatively easy to brush and can be rubbed repeatedly. The strokes are immiscible and the handwriting is clear, so it is suitable for regular script or running script. Cotton paper is more suitable for painting flowers and birds, ink and wash, the colors should be compatible, and there can be no white glue marks. It is conceivable that if you draw peony, every stroke is clear and you see colorless glue marks, it will not look good. Writing calligraphy can be considered.

Watch the test

From the above characteristics, you can pay attention when choosing rice paper. Try buying one first.

1, draw a stroke with thick ink first, and see if it is gray after drying (don't use ink according to your preference);

2. Draw a few strokes in parallel with light ink to see if there are colorless glue marks (if there are, it is best to draw shrimp);

3. Dip the root of the pen in light ink, dip the tip of the pen in Jiao Mo, spread out the pen, and erase it repeatedly on the paper. If the light color is covered on the thick one, the thick one will not melt, which is a better clean skin. It is best to draw landscapes and write running scripts.

4, repeatedly use a pen with light ink in one place, it is best not to be hairless, and sometimes painting and calligraphy paper will have this effect. Painting flowers and birds, writing running script, cursive paper should be scattered better, with distinct layers. Cotton is generally used instead of clean leather.

Selection and storage of rice paper

Paper needs to be preserved for a period of time, especially real rice paper. The longer the better, but be sure to keep it safe. Don't be exposed to the sun for a long time. When the paper is not used, it should be wrapped in three layers of newspaper. Otherwise, the rice paper will become stiff and will not melt in, and there will be some white spots, and the color and ink will not be drawn.

Some manufacturers will indicate whether it is cotton or clean leather when stamping paper. Don't believe too much, that's not allowed. Generally, the nature of calligraphy and painting paper is similar to that of cotton. Even a large factory is not necessarily accurate, which is related to the production process. Speaking of ray, it's a long story. Trust your eyes. Besides, good goods are not cheap. It's used a lot. You can tell the performance of the paper by touching it with your hand and pointing it on the paper with saliva. When you have enough money, you might as well collect some paper. Now I want to buy good paper from 25 years ago, each piece is about 100 yuan.
