Cao Hongxun (1846 ~ 19 10) was the number one scholar in the second year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1876). Wei county southwest pass (now Nanguan) people, living in Xinxian Lane. Grandfather was a Daoguang juren and worked as a magistrate in Heshan, Guangdong. His father, Cao Tang, supports his family by doing small business. Cao Hongxun is a young boy who is eager to learn. In the second year of Guangxu (1876), he won the first prize and was awarded to the Hanlin Academy for editing. Guangxu five years (1879) served as deputy examiner in Hunan. In 23 years (1896), he served as the magistrate of Yongchang, Yunnan. Later, he successively served as the provincial judge of Yunnan, the minister of Guizhou, the minister of Hunan and the governor of Shaanxi. Cao Hongxun lives in a clean office and is deeply loved by the people. He is good at calligraphy, and his ink is found in the Forbidden City and Summer Palace in Beijing. In his hometown Wei County, there are stone carvings handed down from generation to generation, such as rebuilding the Yuqing Palace Monument and Wanyuan Garden.
In the 29th year of Guangxu (1903), there was another champion in Wei County, who was also a native of Southwestern Pass (now Nanguan). His name is Shoupeng Wang and he lives in Xinxiang, an alley with Cao Hongxun. Cao and Wang are 28 years apart. Shoupeng Wang was only 2 years old when Cao Hongxun won the top prize. Shoupeng Wang is the penultimate scholar in the history of China (the last one is Liu Chunlin). Because there are two champions in an alley, Guanxin Lane in the southwest of Wei County is customarily called "Champion Lane".
Shoupeng Wang (1875 ~ 1929) was the first scholar in the 27th year of Guangxu reign (190 1), and was awarded the title of scholar in the 29th year (1903). Thirty-one years (1905), I went to Japan with Zaize and others to inspect politics, industry and education, and wrote an investigation record after returning home. In the second year (19 10), Xuantong was appointed as the promotion ambassador of Hubei Province, and once founded the "Excellent Normal School in Hunan and Hubei". In the early years of the Republic of China, he served as secretary of Shandong Provincial Governor's Office and Secretary of the Governor's Embassy. 19 16, worked as the secretary of the presidential office in Beijing for many years. 1925 Director of Shandong Provincial Department of Education. The following year, six provincial colleges of agriculture, industry, mining, medicine, law and commerce were reorganized, liberal arts were added, and Shandong University was established as the president. Shoupeng Wang is good at calligraphy. At that time, the school card of Shandong University was its book. He left a lot of ink in Wei County, his hometown, most of which were couplets, plaques and theme fans. He once wrote a book titled "Shixian Temple" in Wudaotang, Southwest China, "Kindness can help the public, and pious prayer will defeat him". His works include not only investigation records, but also poems and manuscripts.
