Why does the word "Wang" have three horizontal lines instead of three vertical lines?

In the evolution of Chinese characters, font changes are related to writing tools and methods. The word "Wang" was originally based on "earth" and was written as "dirt well", meaning a pile of earth wrapped in it. Later, "earth" was changed to "jade", which means "treasure, precious stone", indicating the appearance of a pile of precious things. With the change of writing tools and calligraphy style, Wang Zi's writing style has also changed.

In the Jin Dynasty's Shuo Wen Jie Zi, Wang Zi was written as "Jade Jade", that is, three verticals. In the Tang Dynasty, cursive script appeared, which is characterized by rough, concise and chic calligraphy and painting. Therefore, in order to write the fluency and writing speed of calligraphy on paper, Wang Zi's strokes are often omitted and written directly in three horizontal lines. Therefore, now Wang Zi's handwriting is "jade11",that is, three horizontal characters, which has become a common standard writing format.

In a word, Wang Zi's evolution and writing style are influenced by historical and cultural background and have experienced long-term evolution and changes. Different times, calligraphy schools and writing tools have created different font styles.
