How to implement extracurricular expansion in junior high school English teaching

English Curriculum Standards clearly points out that English extracurricular activities are an important part of students' English learning, which can provide a larger platform for students' language practice and autonomous learning. For teachers, the new curriculum reform requires teachers to completely change their educational concepts, take students as the center, take students' hobbies as the starting point of classroom teaching design, pay attention to the extension and expansion of classroom teaching, and truly realize the new concept of "organizing lively extracurricular activities and expanding students' learning channels" put forward by the new curriculum standard.

Keywords: junior high school English; Extracurricular expansion; Extended form

With the progress of the times and the development of society, junior high school English teaching has entered a new stage. Under the guidance of the new curriculum concept and task-based teaching concept, the majority of English teachers have gradually established a new concept of "student-centered, focusing on the extension and expansion of classroom teaching", rationally using teaching materials, and fully and effectively carrying out various extracurricular activities on the basis of giving full play to the demonstration role of teaching materials to promote students' English learning. Based on the teaching practice in our school, this paper expounds the necessity, principles and forms of extracurricular expansion of English teaching.

First, the necessity of English extracurricular expansion teaching

1. New curriculum standards and new teaching concepts and methods require English learning to extend from classroom to extracurricular.

The new curriculum standard requires English teaching to lay the foundation for students' all-round development and lifelong development, requires teachers to provide students with space for autonomous learning and mutual communication, encourages students to develop their comprehensive language ability through experience, practice, discussion, cooperation and inquiry, and creates conditions for students to explore their own interests and solve problems independently. Task-based teaching advocates that "activities should not be limited to classroom teaching, but should be extended to study and life outside the classroom".

2. Students' own learning needs also need extra-curricular expansion of English teaching.

Students in 2 1 century have many ways to obtain information. They are no longer satisfied with the inherent knowledge in textbooks, and hope that teachers can provide them with more opportunities to use English. There are many children with musical talent and painting skills, and they are experts in using computers. If the extracurricular activities we design are conducive to the mutual penetration and practice of English and other disciplines, they will certainly promote the all-round development of students' cognitive ability, thinking ability, aesthetic taste, imagination and creativity.

3. Lagging textbooks need to supplement and improve the content of keeping pace with the times.

At present, some contents in the textbook "Come on" published by People's Education Press are out of date. For example, pen pals appear in textbooks. In fact, nowadays students seldom have the opportunity to write letters, and e-friends should appear more in their lives. There are also Olympic Games and other content, which appeared as the future tense in 2006, but now it is the past tense, and students are not interested in discussing it. So in this part of the teaching, we have revised the content, such as discussing the problems of netizens with students, how to make friends, and what to pay attention to when making friends. Students are very interested in this and the teaching effect is very good.

Second, the principles of English extracurricular expansion teaching

1. Principle of interest

Junior high school students like interesting learning content and hope that the learning process is full of fun. This is in line with the concept of the new curriculum standard: encouraging students to learn languages in a relaxed and happy environment. If students are always interested in what they have learned in the process of learning, it is easier to internalize it as part of their own knowledge. Therefore, we designed all kinds of interesting English homework, such as: English handwritten newspaper competition, English calligraphy competition, English song competition, etc., which not only enriched students' study life, but also allowed them to take the initiative to participate and gain something.

2. The principle of innovation

Nowadays, middle school students have a broad vision and are well informed. Appropriate expansion is conducive to improving one's learning ability and interpersonal skills. However, the expansion should rely on teaching materials and make a breakthrough on the basis of existing teaching materials. We can't expand for the sake of expansion, otherwise it will be divorced from the actual situation of students and make the learning process chaotic. We can integrate teaching materials and add appropriate extracurricular content to them. In the process of material selection and integration, students' age, knowledge level and other aspects must be combined, and they must not be encouraged to do so.

3. Development should create conditions for students' independent inquiry learning and cooperative learning.

There are many forms of English extracurricular development, which can include students' independent activities and cooperative tasks. For example, we organized an English film dubbing competition. This activity not only requires students to complete independently, but also requires tacit cooperation between them. In the process of preparing for the exam, teachers saw students arguing fiercely because of different materials; Because a classmate's pronunciation is not accurate, everyone will help him correct it; Practice repeatedly because one sentence is not good enough. These are all learning beyond knowledge and valuable learning experiences. In the process of completing the learning task, students learned tolerance and cooperation, and realized the importance of teamwork.

Third, the form of extracurricular expansion.

English Curriculum Standards clearly points out that language learning needs a lot of input. Rich and colorful curriculum resources are particularly important for English learning.

In daily teaching, we mainly carry out extracurricular activities from the following aspects:

1. English extracurricular reading

We use subscribed newspapers and periodicals, such as Learning English and 2 1 Century, to insist on a weekly newspaper reading class. When preparing lessons, teachers should first choose articles suitable for students to read according to their cognitive ability, from easy to difficult, step by step. In grade one, in order to stimulate students' interest in learning English, we should choose more interesting materials, such as stories and jokes. Junior two English emphasizes grammar and discourse analysis, which is also a preparation for senior high school English learning in the future, but the materials should be combined with students' real life. For example, one issue introduces English singers that students like very much, and the other introduces the latest movies. The article is much more difficult than grade one, but students don't find it difficult to read it. Choosing materials is the key to reading newspapers and periodicals. Grasping the difficulties will not dampen students' enthusiasm for reading. When reading, we encourage children to find the key words, phrases and sentence patterns in the article and accumulate them in the notebook. With the improvement of learning difficulty, it is necessary for teachers to guide students' reading skills in order to further improve their reading ability. In the process of reading newspapers, tell students how to understand the content structure of the article through scanning; Show students how to skip reading, that is, find specific information in questionable sentences and paragraphs; For some questions that ask for details, teach students to read carefully and quickly find the answers related to the questions in the complicated information.

2. Daily duty report

Daily duty report, namely duty report, is an extracurricular activity with short time, wide participation, simple operation and long-term development.

Starting from the first semester of grade seven, five minutes before class every day, students take turns to give lectures on stage according to their student numbers. In order to alleviate students' fear of difficulties, we can tell stories, guess riddles, play games or teach English songs in the primary stage. In the eighth grade, we asked students' duty report to be more original than what they got through the internet or newspapers. We also want to improve their writing ability through the duty report. Therefore, from the second day of junior high school, we require students to provide a handwritten or printed manuscript after completing the duty report. In order not to make the duty report a mere formality, the students who completed the duty report asked questions on the spot to test the listening effect of other students. Nowadays, students not only have a wide range of topics, but also some students have found new ways. According to their professional knowledge in computer, they made exquisite PPT, which made their duty report colorful and fascinating. In short, teachers guide students to have something to say and write, and the duty report activities will be carried out vividly.

3. Extension and expansion of classroom knowledge

The process of English teaching is not only the explanation and reproduction of textbook knowledge, but also the depth and breadth of curriculum resources based on textbooks. Therefore, in each unit, we have added the section "Let the words fly", the purpose of which is to help students learn some words that are "polysemous and familiar with the word business". Through this link, students can have a thorough understanding of the usage and meaning of some commonly used words. For example, the word get appears in Unit 8 of Go for it 8 (below), and its usage in the textbook is "Why don't you buy her a scarf? Since this word is a key word in English vocabulary, we have expanded it. (1) Everyone is tired sometimes. Go and have breakfast. (Come and get it) (3) Get John a drink. We have a lot of homework to do every day. Li Ming doesn't study hard, so he often gets low marks in exams. You should ask your friends to help you. Dad went to Hong Kong. He arrived there last night. (Arrive)

In each unit, we and the student union will further expand some keywords, which will greatly promote students' interest in learning and learning effect over time.

At the same time, we also consciously strengthen the cultivation of students' English cultural awareness. Can you come to my party? At that time, considering the differences between Chinese and western cultures, we added some topics to discuss during the lecture, such as: When should we go to a party? What gift is suitable for a party? How do children have a party? How to write a party invitation and how to reply to it? In the ninth grade textbook, when we teach Chinese and foreign table manners, we also use situations to guide students to consult table manners in different countries in groups after class. Students can take it seriously and gain a lot in group communication. Through expansion, students have a better understanding of English culture. They feel that what they have learned is very relevant to life, and their interest in learning is greatly improved.

4. British tabloid display board

The display of English tabloids provides a space for versatile students to display their talents and is deeply loved by students. Our tabloids have themes and form a series. After returning to school in the summer vacation, we made a tabloid board of my colorful holiday. Later, I made a blackboard newspaper about China and western festivals, such as Spring Festival, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, to take this opportunity to let students better understand the western festival culture. Every time the English tabloid exhibition board is completed, many students linger, appreciate and study seriously, and become another place for students to learn English.

In short, there are various forms of extracurricular development of junior high school English. If teachers can give full play to their role in the teaching process, it will certainly improve students' English learning ability and problem-solving ability in English. At the same time, it is also helpful to improve English teaching efficiency, promote teachers' professional development and achieve a win-win situation between teaching and learning.
