I have learned three times, that is, heart, eyes and mouth. The heart is not here, the eyes don't look closely, the heart is not single-minded, it can only read, never remember, and it won't last long. Of the three, the heart is the most urgent. Since the heart is here, won't the eyes be there?

I once said that if you want to concentrate on reading, you must have three things in place, that is, heart, eyes and mouth. If the heart is not in the book, then the eyes will not look carefully. Since the heart and eyes didn't absorb it, they just looked at it casually, and they certainly couldn't remember it, even if they did, it wouldn't last long. Of the three, the heart is the most important. Now that the heart is here, are the eyes and mouth gone?

Zhu's reading method

Zhu once criticized two common problems at that time: first, "subjective and private will", that is, speculating the truth in the book with his own ideas and distorting the original intention of the ancients. The second is the "ancestor theory", that is, the previously accepted views refused to give up, thus refusing to accept new views.

In order to correct these two bad problems, Zhu advocates that reading must be open-minded, thoughtful and carefully understand the author's original intention. Zhu stressed that reading should be patient, that is, chewing repeatedly and deeply understanding the main idea of the article.
