I was honored to be invited by Liu Run's reading club to share my experience in teaching with book friends on March 1st, and how teaching can force myself to input, and finally internalize it so that I can Benefit.
This article is a record of the day’s notes. Thanks to book friend Doudou for organizing them.
It's like "I've heard a lot of truths, but I still can't live this life well."
It seems like I've read a lot of books, but I'm still in the same place. Many people will feel the same way, including former teacher Zhao Bing. What is the reason?
In the 1960s, the National Training Laboratory of the United States conducted a study and found that the learning efficiency is the lowest when we usually use listening, speaking and reading. Two weeks later, you will probably still remember only 5 to 10 of them.
The best way to learn is to teach others what you have seen and share it. So reading and listening are not as good as talking about it. There is a saying that "teaching is the best way to learn." If you tell it once, it will be remembered better.
Teacher Luo Zhenyu once said, "To regard reading and listening to lectures as learning is the biggest misunderstanding of learning."
Professor Feynman, the famous Nobel Prize winner in physics, once said, "Teaching is the best way to learn, and the essence of learning is production output."
There are many things we want to do, but they are easier said than done. The gap between knowing and doing is that one thing is missing, which is to say it out. (Reading to do what you say = get)
For example, today you are asked to talk about a book or share a piece of knowledge. Do you have to recall and organize it again? Language, this process will allow you to review and strengthen it. Who gained the most in the end? It's ourselves.
Therefore, listening to a book is not as good as speaking, and output is forced to input!
Learning this method can effectively help us continuously improve ourselves. It fundamentally changes our problem of forgetting after reading and failing to learn.
Teacher Zhao Bing himself emphasized that by telling the book out and insisting on checking in every day to teach the book, he forgot the book from reading, and gradually became able to remember it very firmly, use it vividly, and benefit a lot.
Is it the essence of dry goods? Is it recommended to sell books? Or is it a reflection after reading?
It depends on what kind of book you are talking about, what your style is, and how you interpret the book. So there is no one standard answer, it depends on the style of the storyteller and what type of book is chosen.
After one’s own digestion and understanding, it is a way to share the essence of the book’s content and one’s own insights with others in the form of a speech.
Readers must master three abilities: be able to read, be able to teach, and be able to organize
1. Teaching is divided into telling a good book and telling a good book:
The key on the left is to select the book, explore the content of the book and clearly explain the purpose of the book; on the right is how you arrange, present and express it. Choosing the right book will lay a very important foundation for your lectures. When giving lectures, you must consider the audience you are speaking to and focus on the audience.
2. You Me It Model
You: Will your audience benefit? (Most important)
Me: Do I hold? (The proposal must be read at least twice)
It: Is it worth recommending?
3.? Storytelling formula = Book title Author Category Point of view Case/Story Enlightenment/Reappointment
In this formula, the most important thing is point of view, and point of view is king. Because point of view is the core of our teaching. The following case stories and my own insights are all in service of viewpoints.
And the point of view of teaching books is selective. A book covers so much content that we cannot finish it in just a few minutes or even an hour. So just choose the perspective that inspires you the most. So good ideas are the soul of storytelling.
4. Three principles for teaching viewpoints: simple? specific? innovative
Simple. First, in a short sharing, only talk about one viewpoint and don’t be greedy for more. The second is to be clear enough and simple.
To be specific, the content should not ask about "how to make us happier", which is too big a topic, but should be specific to a very detailed point that is easy to answer directly.
It is more difficult to have new ideas and it is more personalized. You can talk about the content and viewpoints in this book that make your heart beat, or make you think deeply, or suddenly enlighten you. This is something new and innovative.
For example, Teacher Fan Deng talks about a book called "Low-Risk Entrepreneurship". The views in it are very inspiring to Teacher Zhao, because Teacher Zhao Bing is also an entrepreneur himself. We have always believed that, Starting a business is a near-death experience. It is extremely difficult. If you have to fight to the end, it is like going to a battlefield.
But he put forward a point of view, saying that in fact, starting a business is not that risky at all. We can easily obtain greater value with very low risks.
Let’s not talk about the principle behind it. When you hear this point of view, will your ears stand up? Is that true? Give you a particularly fresh feeling. So if your content can be simple, specific and innovative, then congratulations, you are successful.
5. Three consecutive questions for opinion nuggets: What is this book about? Why do you recommend this book? Which perspective benefits you the most?
What is it about: What is it about? What valuable content was taught?
Why: Why do I recommend this book and what is special about it?
Which one: Which point of view benefited you the most and even changed you.
For storytellers, they need to dig deeper into these three issues. If you can't find it yet, you haven't read the book thoroughly.
As storytellers, we have a mission. We must dig out the core value of this book and present it to our audience.
In fact, the lecture does not need to be very long, even just three minutes, 800 words is enough. The key point is that you extract the points and core of what you want to say and present them clearly to everyone.
Applying the lecture formula, everyone can give lectures, and Liu Run Reading Club is a platform for everyone to lecture.
Listen more, think more, unpack more, ask more, and practice more.
First of all, listen more. We call it Moduer. There are many platforms for listening to books on the market, some are paid and some are free. Brushing your ears is a bit like learning English. As long as you listen more and develop a sense of language, you will naturally know how to speak, how to attract people, and how to pause.
But listening more is not enough, you also need to think more. We need to think about how he managed to progress step by step so that I was always willing to listen to it, without making any mistakes in the whole process.
Then there is more dismantling. When Teacher Zhao Bing was learning to give lectures, he would take down all other people's manuscripts or read the original manuscripts. Analyze what his manuscript said and where he added a clever point. To dismantle other people's good speeches, you must not only think it is good, but also know why it is good.
Then ask more about the masters who give lectures, ask more about the experts, and communicate with them.
Finally, the most important thing is to practice more, just like giving a speech. Teaching is actually a skill, and skills require practice. We can never learn to swim standing on the shore. After all, practice makes perfect~
