200 1 The Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) on Common Languages and Characters, which came into effect, clearly stipulates that the state promotes the standardization of Chinese characters, and at the same time clarifies the scope in which traditional Chinese characters can be retained or used:
(1) Cultural relics and historic sites;
(2) variations in surnames;
(3) Artistic works such as calligraphy and seal cutting;
(4) Handwritten inscriptions and signboards;
(five) required by publishing, teaching and scientific research;
(six) special circumstances approved by the relevant departments of the State Council.
Traditional Chinese characters are mainly used in Taiwan Province Province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Special Administrative Region. The standards in Taiwan Province Province of People's Republic of China (PRC) are the Standard Character List of Commonly Used Chinese Characters, the Standard Character List of Less Commonly Used Chinese Characters and the Unusual Character List, and the Standard Character List of Commonly Used Chinese Characters shall prevail in China Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
