There is no doubt that it was the Song Dynasty, especially the Northern Song Dynasty. Because the Song Dynasty was the best dynasty for literati. Most literati had the opportunity to display their ambitions in the Song Dynasty. With the lessons of the Tang Dynasty, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the national policy of valuing literature over martial arts was implemented, so the status of literati in the Song Dynasty was the highest in all previous dynasties. In order to attract scholars from all over the world into the ruling class, the rulers of the Song Dynasty attached great importance to the imperial examinations. The Emperor of the Song Dynasty not only opened the palace examination, presided over the written examination in person, but also personally wrote poems to encourage scholars to study and take part in the imperial examinations. Moreover, the Song Dynasty was a very enlightened dynasty. As we know, the number of people admitted to the imperial examinations in the past dynasties is very small, and many scholars have changed from young people with high spirits to old people with gray hair and have not yet been admitted. However, the Song Dynasty was different. The admission rate of the imperial examination in Song Dynasty was the highest in all previous dynasties, and many literati could enter the official career through the imperial examination. We all know that the imperial examination was the most prosperous in the Tang Dynasty, but only 10 to 20 people were admitted to the imperial examination in the Tang Dynasty, and in the Song Dynasty, there were always 200 to 300 people, ten times as many as in the Tang Dynasty. In addition, the Song Dynasty gave special care to those tried and tested literati. There was a special rule in the Song Dynasty that anyone who failed 15 times could take an exam called "Special Playing Name", and the passing rate of this exam was almost 100%. Therefore, as a scholar, even if you fail many times, you still have the opportunity to enter the official career. So, I guess, it is the wish of every scholar to return to the Song Dynasty.
