How to teach yourself calligraphy

1. You must choose a better pen. You can choose ordinary inkstone ink. If you use paper, don't choose one with strong water permeability. At first, it was suggested to start learning official script or regular script, and it should be soft (so choose soft at the beginning of choosing a pen).

2, you need to post it. Copy first, then come. Dear, it is written according to the original; Imitation is written on the original with thin paper (translucent). The role of imitation is to master its shape, and the role of presence is to gain its momentum. Don't write by yourself at first, because if you don't learn the structure and brushwork well, what you write by yourself will be detrimental to your future improvement.

3. At first, learning Chinese brush focused on learning the writing style of strokes, that is, horizontal, vertical, left, right and dot. This is a basic skill (you should also pay attention to writing when practicing, but pay more attention to the writing of strokes). After mastering the writing method of strokes, you can pay attention to learning the structure of the bookshelf (knot words). To learn these two items well, you basically just need to grasp the layout of the whole article. If you have a teacher (or a classmate or friend who writes calligraphy), it is naturally best, and everything is difficult at the beginning. The writing of strokes is very important for beginners, and it will be much better if there is a teacher. If you can't find a teacher, buy a copybook with a tutorial.

4. copybook recommendation. Regular script is recommended by Ou Yangxun, Liu Gongquan, Yan Zhenqing and Wang Xizhi. Official script recommends Han Li, Cao Quanbei (this is my favorite official script) and Zhang Qianbei.

Finally, the most important thing in learning calligraphy is persistence. It takes a long time to practice every day to be effective, so you can't get quick success and instant benefit. Everything is difficult at the beginning, don't lose heart. Wish you success!
