Ou Yangxun experienced three generations: Chen, Sui and Tang, and was a great calligrapher and theorist. He read extensively in ancient and modern times, studied the calligraphy of Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi, and absorbed the models of Han Li and Wei and Jin Dynasties. Zhang Huaiguan commented on him in the Tang Dynasty: "The True Classics is based on big orders, but it is not integrated. As dense as an armory spear, Shen Feng is stricter than Zhiyong, and Polish is not as good as Shinan. "
Su Dongpo's evaluation of European style is "bold and incisive". Ou Yangxun's regular script strokes are even in thickness, rigid and implicit, and the strokes are not straight. The brush strokes are both round and round, and there is a kind of precipitous and sharp between the lines. This artistic feature has always been regarded as a classic of "hiding from danger, precipitous and sharp".
Ou Yangxun's calligraphy and inscriptions, in addition to the famous Jiuchenggong Li Quanming and Hans Zhang Tie stele, also include Yu Gong Wen Yan Bo stele and Huangfushengchen stele, which are called "the first regular script in the Tang Dynasty".
