Anecdote of couplets (233) Lin Zexu's book couplets

1840 1, Lin zexu was appointed governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, banned opium, and repeatedly defeated the provocation of the British army. He personally wrote a pair of couplets to hang in the government hall:

There are hundreds of rivers and great tolerance;

The wall stands a thousand miles, and it is just without desire.

The first part tells myself to listen to different opinions, and the second part encourages myself to put an end to selfish desires and be an upright person. Words, like people, sound when they land.

Lin Zexu is an honest official with a high level of historical and literary literacy and is good at calligraphy. When he became the history of Lian Fang, Jiangsu, he once wrote a book:

Seeking public feelings;

I would like to smell myself.

Call on and encourage people to boldly expose corrupt officials, dare to make suggestions to themselves and express noble sentiments.

1842, Lin zexu was framed by Daoguang and ordered to be exiled to Yili, Xinjiang. During his exile, Lin Zexu still remembered the fate of the country, and the book combined Zhi Ming:

Sitting on the first floor, I was idle because of illness, so I dispersed or complained;

Make friends for thousands of years, learn from the past to serve the present, and learn from the past to serve the present.

The first part expresses his resentment that his talents can't be displayed, and the second part expresses that he is still learning in adversity and never forgets to save the country.

In Yili, he also wrote a couplet:

Occasionally, the wind and rain surprised the flowers;

Get up again and wait for the moon.
