How can I become a calligrapher?

The question of how to become a calligrapher has been lingering in my mind since I began to learn to write. The opposite of this proposition is: Why do more people learn to practice calligraphy and fewer people become calligraphers? This problem has been bothering me for many years, and now I finally understand it through the interpretation of Sun's Book Score. To learn the art of calligraphy and achieve the goal of success, calligraphers must have three basic elements at the same time:

First, guided by the correct theory of calligraphy art;

Second, scientific learning and practice methods are the guarantee;

Third, there is a hard-working learning spirit. Sun said in "Postscript to the Book Score": "Since the Han and Wei Dynasties, there have been many book critics. There are disputes about these projects. Or repeat the old chapter, which is different from the past. Or Gou Xingxin said it was bad for the future. There are many people, and those who are insufficient are still insufficient. " This is Sun's retrospective summary of calligraphy theory since the Han and Wei Dynasties. The summary is as follows:

First, there are many people who study the art of calligraphy, and there are also many articles about calligraphy criticism. There are many writers.

Second, the content of the book theory is very chaotic and the quality is very poor. "Controversial about the provisions", "or restate the old chapter", "or say something new".

Third, there are too few things that are useful to scholars, and too many things that are useless or even misleading to scholars. "There are many people when there are many people, and there are few people when there are few people."

We say that if you want to learn calligraphy and become a calligrapher, you must have three basic elements of learning calligraphy art at the same time, while most learners only have one of the three basic elements of learning calligraphy, "diligence and dedication", and what they lack are two basic elements of "correct calligraphy art theory" and "scientific learning and practice methods". In the past, calligraphy theory paid great attention to the "hard work spirit", which scholars already had, but did not say much about the two basic calligraphy learning requirements: "correct calligraphy art theory" and "scientific learning and practice methods". We say that "lack" and "complexity" are only one side of the problem, and what is worse is the nonsense of "sophistry", that is, the wrong calligraphy art theory and unfair calligraphy art criticism interfere and mislead scholars, which is why many people learn calligraphy, but few people learn calligraphy to become calligraphers. This is what Sun said in an article about Shu Pu Shu Die: "As for the comments of various factions, most of them are related to glitz, which is nothing more than external appearances and internal mysteries."
