The unchangeable behavior pattern of heaven is to strengthen the nature of all things, so a gentleman should follow the heaven and protect the natural virtue of all beings so that they can live forever; The unchangeable code of conduct of the earth is to nurture all things, so a gentleman should take the earth as an example and be faithful to the virtue of nature to undertake and entrust all people's lives!
"Being virtuous and carrying things" comes from Zhouyi.
The lofty morality comes from the second divination of Zhouyi, The Biography of Kun Guaxiang.
Corresponding to "carrying things with kindness" is the legend of the first number of images in Zhouyi: "Heaven is healthy, and gentlemen are constantly striving for self-improvement".
These two sentences are widely quoted by people in China and even people in neighboring countries influenced by China culture, as the motto or motto of personal Xiu De and forge ahead.
What do you mean by "the legend of the elephant"
Friends who are not familiar with Zhouyi will have doubts. I think there are "elephants" and "baby elephants" in Zhouyi. What does this mean?
Is this elephant what we often call "elephant"? Why use animal names to explain Zhouyi?
In fact, the Biography of Elephants in Zhouyi does have some connection with what we call animal elephants. In ancient times, "Xiang" and "Xiang" were interchangeable words and could refer to each other.
According to historical records, the temperature and humidity in the Yellow River basin were relatively high during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period or even earlier. At that time, the Yellow River basin was rich in aquatic plants and various animals, and there were also many elephants and rhinos. Elephants are the largest land animals, so elephants have evolved into the meaning of "very big things".
This is the Oracle Bone Inscriptions, bronze inscriptions and seal script of elephants and their later evolution:
(The picture is quoted from the pictographic dictionary website)
Elephants are huge and beautiful, with long and dynamic noses and full of visual shock, so the ancients used elephants to replace everything. Therefore, the meaning of "elephant also, elephant also" is derived.
Then the correct meaning of Biography of the Elephant is to look at this divination from a macro perspective, so as to study the intention and significance expressed by this divination.
The correct meaning of the corresponding Biography of the Elephant is: treat each hexagram from a microscopic point of view, so as to study the intention and significance expressed by this hexagram.
What is the "image" of Kun Gua?
Kun hexagrams belong to the second of the sixty-four hexagrams in the Book of Changes, and the whole hexagrams are composed of six yin hexagrams from bottom to top.
Please pay attention to the picture below. One long straight line is called "Yang Yao" and two short straight lines are called "Yin Yao". Kun hexagrams are composed of six yin hexagrams.
Scholars who studied the Book of Changes in ancient times began to observe, compare, compare and associate after seeing the hexagrams composed of Kun hexagrams, and then came to the conclusion:
My translation: Kun Gua depicts the profound and generous appearance of the earth. As a gentleman, you should cultivate and improve your virtue and learn the greatness of the earth that carries everything.
Why is Kun Gua "profound" and "generous"?
The six hexagrams composed of Kun hexagrams are all Yin hexagrams. In the Book of Changes system, yang represents divergent force and yin represents contractive force. Yang Yao stands for qi, spirit and upward; Yin represents the container, the material side, downward.
Therefore, Kungua, composed of six Yin hexagrams, represents a very strong downward material thing, and we are connected with the living environment used by the ancients, so it is only as deep as the earth and seems to have no end, and it is a real material that can be touched and felt; And the earth is connected as one piece, which seems to be boundless. Six yin hexagrams are connected end to end, just like the earth.
Why should a gentleman be virtuous?
We have just analyzed the elephant of Kun Gua, and observed the scene depicted by Kun Gua purely from an objective perspective. But Biography of the Elephant goes further, from things to people, reconnecting the objective world with people's subjective psychological activities, which is what Biography of the Elephant finally said.
Because the earth is far-reaching, generous and unparalleled, just as we want "people, earth, heaven, heaven and Tao", we should imitate the virtue of the earth, that is, the virtue of the earth to inherit and nurture all things. In this way, the Book of Changes has changed from an abstract painting depicting the objective world to a philosophical thought guiding our human existence and development.
This is one of the sources of "harmony between man and nature" in China's ancient philosophy.

What is kindness? Kindness means using intelligence in the right place.
Kind-hearted people are like a tree, leaving those seemingly useless leaves and dead branches under their feet and turning them into thick fertile soil over the years, nourishing the growth of the tree. But these are just unintentional actions of the tree, but they have become the nutrition of the tree, nourishing the tree more and more.
If the wise man is compared to a tree, the wise man uses his wisdom in careful selection, and the wise man can accurately identify what is useful to him and accurately throw away what is useless to him. Slowly, it is precisely because of these precise wastes that the soil under the tree loses its nutrition and becomes thinner and thinner, making the tree longer and weaker.
This is beyond the logical calculation of smart people, because the mathematical formula is invalid here. These are subtle chemical reactions, and we can't find the chemical formula. We are often unaware of this loss. Perhaps this is the punishment for smart people and the reward for good people.
In fact, it is not intention but carelessness that defeats a wise man. Unintention is the nature of good people, and intention is the cleverness of smart people.
It is heaven to carry things with kindness, and kindness means that some unintentional people should abide by the law!
"Virtue carries things", saying: "The terrain is vast, and a gentleman carries things with virtue". [Yi Kun] "Load" means bearing, and "thing" refers to matter and things. Yu is a merit. Only by doing good deeds and accumulating virtues can you afford the material and spiritual wealth you have and enjoy. The more you enjoy, the more you have, the more you should accumulate merits.
As the saying goes, the width of the sea is not as wide as the heart, and the thickness of the earth is not as thick as that of Germany. That is, people should forgive others' mistakes and be lenient with others. Be generous, carry things, and emphasize tolerance for people and things. It means that people are broad-minded, magnanimous and have profound moral cultivation. It is an important connotation to tolerate people's shortcomings and forgive their mistakes.
People are eager for understanding and understanding, and society needs harmonious interpersonal relationships. Being tolerant and kind to others is conducive to communicating feelings between people, enhancing mutual understanding and promoting social harmony and stability.
It's a curse to be virtuous. From the Book of Changes, there is a Kun hexagram, whose image says: "The terrain is Kun, and the gentleman carries things with virtue." Everyone can read or write, but sometimes it is not easy to frame it as his motto.
My understanding of it is that only by constantly cultivating one's own moral character and accumulating one's own good results can one bear the blessings of life. If virtue is not thick enough, even if God gives you wealth or happiness, it may not come to a good end.
Tell me something that happened to me: Last winter, I asked my wife to embroider a cross stitch (pictured above) and put it together with the other two cross stitches. As a result, this is not flat at all. So, I took it to another store and did it again. I want to hang it in the new store. Because the shop was being renovated at that time, I put it by the bed and had a dream at night. I struggled and crushed the glass frame with one foot. So I went to install it again the next day. Because the mirror frame was deformed, it was replaced with a new one. After loading, I was particularly satisfied this time. I thought it would go well! As a result, another accident happened while I was hammering a nail into the wall. At that time, I hit one of the two nails. Looking for another flat one, the first one missed. It fell to the ground with a bang and broke into pieces. I can't hang up my business, alas! At that time, that heart ......
A few days later, I had to install it again. I'm not satisfied with the new frame this time. There seems to be something wrong. We don't have a choice. Oddly enough, the ugliest one actually died this time!
As a simple point of view, it's no big deal, but now it's in the divination of "Kun", the situation is very different. Because it is fact and common sense that the earth carries everything, and now it is suddenly endowed with the quality of "virtue", then is this "virtue" a cause or a result? Nature or fiction? Is it sophistry to examine this problem with the skill of debate?
That is to say, the word "Zai" used in the divination of "Kun" or "Zhi Zhi" is objective, while the word "De" added to "Kun" is artificial.
Specifically, "hoarding" is only a phenomenon or existence, and it has no more symbolic significance, especially if it is not "hoarding", it will be "hoarding" or "hoarding", and there is no causal relationship between the two. When a person has wealth, it means that he has wealth. We can be sure of this fact, but we can't come to the conclusion that this man is a "good man". Of course, it cannot be concluded that this person must have "original sin", which is too "natural".
As a textbook of the Zhou Dynasty, why does Zhouyi take "as a matter of course" as the criterion? Because the purpose is to brainwash the whole Chinese nation, for example, there must be many people who naturally oppose my anatomy. Why is it meaningless? Because they are too poisoned to think normally.
Zhouyi is only a political tool of the rulers of the Zhou Dynasty, which can be regarded as one of the evidences.
Carrying things by virtue comes from the Book of Changes, which first evolved from gossip, and everything evolved from Tao. Dry divination: representing heaven, a gentleman strives for self-improvement. Kun Gua: Representing the tunnel, the terrain Kun gentleman carries things with morality.
Everything is not absolute. The figures in the Eight Diagrams of the Book of Changes tell us that the balance of Yin and Yang is the most ideal state. But heaven is unpredictable, and there is a mystery. The evolution of heaven can't be changed overnight, even if you work harder, harder and harder, you can't succeed overnight. Your contribution is only the foundation you laid. Your success can only be achieved through hard work. If you don't have virtue, I'm afraid it's just out of date. Benevolence is to have enough accumulated benevolence, virtue, heart and merit, so as to obtain more materials to carry. Although there are virtues, we need to constantly strive for self-improvement to strengthen assistance. If you have too much material at first, you should eat poor as soon as possible. Therefore, the truth of the evolution of Tao is that the Tao of heaven and earth, that is, the Tao of man and the virtue of carrying things, need to complement each other with self-improvement, and eventually become a balance of yin and yang, and the mystery of Tao is beyond words.
Virtue is a container. How big it is, how many things it can hold. If a person has no virtue, that is to say, this person has no blessings, and blessings are things. Without virtue, there can be no happiness. Everything about people is measured by virtue, so you have a container as big as a water cup, which can only hold the blessing of a water cup. If you have a bucket, you can hold a bucket of blessings, your virtue. So don't complain about what you have, accept what you have now and realize your own shortcomings. What you have now is the maximum quantity that my current virtue can carry. God will not mistreat anyone, don't complain, just ask yourself how many virtues you have accumulated. If you can always be kind and do good deeds, you will know that your blessings will come sooner or later, and you don't have to worry about your life, pension and so on. All blessings come from virtue. If you understand this truth, then you will understand that life is not important and you are not in a hurry. The only important thing is to improve your morality, do more good deeds and gather more blessings, so that all good deeds in life will come to you.
To explain "respecting morality and carrying things", we must first start with the Book of Changes. The first hexagram of the Book of Changes is the line, and the line is the sky. "Xiang" said: "Tian Xingjian". This means that heaven is vigorous and running endlessly. The second divination is Kun, and Kun is the land. "Xun" said: "The greatest is born of all kinds of materials, and it is based on inheriting heaven. Kun Houzai, Germany has no borders. "This means that heaven and earth cooperate perfectly, and the starting point of life formation is the vitality of Yin Kun! Everything is shaped by you. The earth is thick, bearing everything, infinitely vast, including everything, and all kinds of things grow smoothly in the embrace of the earth. Look how great the land of love is! To sum up, it is not difficult for us to understand the meaning of "moral carrying things". The sage praised the kindness of Mother Earth in raising all things by doing simple things. At the same time, he also taught human beings to have the heart of "caring for virtue", putting virtue first and goodness first in everything. Do not treat others with disgust, serve others with virtue, and be kind to others. Only in this way can we live up to the kindness of saints, and only in this way can we truly realize a harmonious society.
Virtue should be the accumulation of heavy and noble character; Carrying things is to bear, nourish, tolerate and benefit the world.
Everything in the world.
