Shaoxing, called Yuezhou in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city in Zhejiang Province. The State Council approved China as a cultural eco-tourism city with the characteristics of Jiangnan water town. As of 20 18, the whole city has three districts, 1 county and two county-level cities, with a total area of 8,274.79 square kilometers, a permanent population of 5.035 million, an urban population of 3.353 million, a urbanization rate of 66.6% and a permanent population of 790,000.
Shaoxing is located in the east of China, in the north-central part of Zhejiang Province, on the south bank of Hangzhou Bay, bordering Ningbo in the east, Taizhou and Jinhua in the south, Hangzhou in the west and Jiaxing across the Qiantang River in the north. It is an important city in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, a core city around Hangzhou Bay and a sub-central city in Hangzhou metropolitan area. It is located at 1 19 53' 03 "east and 12 1 13' 38" north and 29 13' 35 "and 3017' north.
