The calligraphy of the late period contains new elements that are different from the past, which gives the calligraphy of this period a unique look. This new element can be summed up in two ways: one is change, and the other is decline. The change was a rebellion against the slightly simpler calligraphy of the middle period; the decline was related to the expansion of the power of local princes and the decline of the dynasty. The changes began in the era of King Li; the factors of decline were latent and suddenly erupted after the revival of King Xuan.
