Recently, I have spent more time practicing calligraphy. The large characters are based on Su Shi's "Fengle Pavilion". The original stone was carved in the sixth year of Yuanyou in the Northern Song Dynasty (1091 AD) and has been lost. It was re-engraved during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. This monument is one of Su Shi's calligraphy masterpieces in his later years.
It is said that high-quality writing and ink are elegant. Let’s take a look at what the sages said.
Sha Menghai said: "Books are paintings of the heart. How can one write beautiful words if the mind is not beautiful?"
Fu Shan said: "Be a person before you write, and people are amazing. Since ancient times, the outline has often betrayed Zhou Kong, and the pen and ink cannot be corrected. Before studying Lu Gong's calligraphy, he first looked at Lu Gong's exegesis, and the plain spirit was enough to swallow the enemy."
Yang Shoujing said: "One of the calligraphers. The quality must be high, and if the quality is high, the writing will be elegant and unconventional.”
Zhu Hegen said: "The study of calligraphy is no more than a skill, but the first step is to establish a good quality. A person with high quality, every stroke, has a clear, upright, elegant and upright spirit, while a person with low quality, although The excitement, pauses and frustrations can be seen clearly, but the vertical and horizontal violence can only reveal the secret."
Zhao Yi said: "People have different personalities and temperaments, and the movement of the pen will be correct and correct."
Xiang Mu said: "What the heart emits is what is accumulated. Morality is manifested as economics, established as merit, established as moral integrity, proclaimed as articles, carried out as traces... But people's hearts are different, just like their faces, from the inside to the outside, so is the book.
Su Shi said: "The method of writing calligraphy will never be perfect if you have shallow knowledge, narrow vision and insufficient learning."
Liu Xizai said: "The style of writing and the emotion of ink are all the same. It’s based on people’s temperament.”
The same applies to painting.
