? On relaxation

? Some people may say, is it a thing to relax this? Need special mention. Calligraphy is so strange. No art is as simple as calligraphy. One stroke, one ink and one piece of paper are enough. There is no art class. To open a book, first of all, the theory of writing occupies a lot of space with great fanfare. Because the core of calligraphy is to use this short pen.

? I believe that many self-taught calligraphers have had my experience. Listen to the old gentleman in the country and say that your wrist should be straight and don't drop an egg on your wrist. Point the pen at the tip of your nose or something. Of course you can smile now, but you used it as a guide when you were young, so that you went astray for many years. This writing is undoubtedly against the physiological characteristics of the hand, and it is also tense and impossible to relax.

Why should you relax? Aren't those famous works written just by pulling out the mountain, which is inspiring? Once relaxed, can you still write powerful lines?

In fact, it is this tight thinking that affects the normal play of the brush, and in the end it is just counterproductive.

? Let's first look at what the ancients said.

? Cai Yong said: "If you want to study, put your arms away first ... If you have to, Zhongshan Rabbit will never get well." .

? This kind of "separation of arms" can be understood as relaxing the mentality. Like martial arts practitioners, stand on the pile first, breathe and breathe, and then make moves. Only in this way can we command the best.

Su Dongpo said, "Books are better than Yoga Yu." . "Unintentional" is the most relaxed state.

Mi Fei said, "Learning books is expensive, which means that the pen is light and the hand is guilty. Nature is childish, by accident. " Guilty hands, not clenched hands, are also a state of relaxation. "Empty pen" is a state of relaxation.

Confucius said, "Wandering in art". A wandering remark tells the essence of art. Although many people now regard art as a profession and endow it with many utilitarian pursuits, there are too many examples of "deliberately planting flowers and unintentionally planting willows in the shade", and the reason lies in whether the mood is relaxed.

Zhuangzi said that "the external force is the internal fault", which is also the truth.

Before writing, the ancients paid attention to slowly grinding ink, burning incense and washing hands. It is through these external factors that their hearts are fully relaxed, "to the extreme, keep quiet" and enter the realm of no self.

Look at the experience of people today.

Qi Gong said: "People leave more books with good papers. No one is comfortable with them. They cherish them and have a good ear. This is my poor handwriting, and I want to be an expert. There is no fine paper in the eyes, no good words in the hands, and no thoughts of gain and loss in the chest. "

I have a teacher who specializes in the history of calligraphy and is quite successful. I also write. It is said that every serious creation is "three thousand pieces of waste paper, and finally there is no word." At the end of the day, when it was time to tidy up the guy, he wrote casually, but he entered the state, and the work came into being unconsciously. What's the reason? I think it lies in the word "relax".

It can be seen that holding a brush as big as a mop to write while the iron is hot is just a stunt of artists in Jianghu. The process of writing is just like hitting Tai Ji Chuan, relaxing and calm, so as to make the pen in your hand command you well.

If these are still perceptual knowledge from personal experience, then what is the rational knowledge about "relaxation"?

The brush is elastic. Combining hard and soft is the most important material basis of China's calligraphy. An elastic thing, if you want to give full play to its elasticity, the most taboo is to stretch it too tightly or let it collapse completely. The best state is to let it "bounce". Only by fully relaxing the wrist can we make full use of the elasticity of the wrist to lift and press the brush. If you encourage yourself blindly, it looks "strong", but it's actually just strong outside and hollow inside. As seen in the martial arts films, the fierce and deadly western boxing met Tai Ji Chuan, who seemed to be soft and powerless, and was defeated unconsciously. A person, whether obsessed with the hype of external moves or focusing on the calm concession of internal breath, will immediately distinguish the realm. So people in China like to associate books with their personalities. Calligraphy can cultivate self-cultivation because of this correct attitude. A bad attitude is like practicing martial arts. Not to keep fit, but to harm the body.

? Therefore, "relaxation" is the "starting style" in Tai Ji Chuan, which is the premise of all moves. If you sing, you can switch between high and low notes freely only if your voice is fully relaxed. Just like in guqin, only when the wrist is fully relaxed can the intensity, quality and rhythm of the sound be satisfied and vivid, but when it is tense, it will be stiff and empty. In the process of writing, sometimes it is inevitable to be eager for success. In this case, it is better to slow down and let yourself fully relax. At this time, you will find it particularly convenient to push and turn.

No art relies so much on the feeling of that moment as calligraphy. Sun's "five good and five combinations" is a summary of this state. Feeling is definitely not a long-term solution. We must cover them with a rational net and need a rational summary. According to Qiu Zhenzhong's microscopic analysis of the calligraphy form and the movements in the interpretation, whether lifting or twisting, these subtle movements need to be fully relaxed on the premise of being fully relaxed. Therefore, the process of writing is also a process of cultivating the mind. Relaxation is a state. You need to unload yourself, don't force yourself, don't flatter yourself, and let yourself relax inch by inch and feel comfortable inch by inch. So relaxation needs practice, and it can't be done overnight.

After the nervous state of mind is relaxed, we can enter a free and real new world. We write in the study, just like Zhang Sanfeng, a Tai Chi master, pushes and pulls in Wudang, breathing and inhaling. We write on paper, just like a ballet dancer dancing on the stage, which is a wonderful process. It is also a process of breathing with nature. It should be in line with the natural rhythm, and the body and mind blend together, and all the joy and beauty begin to emerge from here.
