Anecdotes about Wu Xinzhong's life.

In the spring of the 13th year of Jiaqing (1808), after the end of palace examination, Wu Xinzhong's paper on the temple ranked first among the top ten papers and was about to be presented to the emperor. At the same time, Xie's calligraphy, a candidate from Yihuang County, Jiangxi Province, was rated as the fifth by the marking staff.

Dai Quheng, a college student who was the top scholar, lived in his second hometown of Jiangxi for a long time, but after all, I heard that Xie was a famous scholar in Jiangxi. He naturally hoped that Xie would become the top scholar in undergraduate course, but he didn't know that the person who ranked first and was born in Wuxian was also a fellow villager born in Xiuning, so he said in front of the marking officer: "It's a pity that no one in Jiangxi has won the top scholar in the past 30 years! Hey! " Hearing this, the marking officer naturally understood their intention, and then tacitly re-examined the papers that had been ranked in turn. One of them pointed to the fifth piece of paper and said, "This piece of paper has good handwriting and can be used as a lift." Another examiner said, "This volume of calligraphy is outstanding and should be advanced by one." Then another examiner said, "This volume of calligraphy and articles is good, and it should be added to another volume." After three consecutive advances, Xie Jie's paper ranked second. However, the change of the first place must be approved by the ministers headed by the examiner.

When the examiner happened to be out of the scene, Xie's paper moved forward three places. When the examiner returned to the marking site, another examiner tentatively said, "The calligraphy of the second place is very good, and it seems that it can rank first." The examiner had a lot of complaints about someone taking advantage of his absence to change the ranking at will, and said, "Calligraphy is really good, but it is not low to rank second!" " In this way, it will be difficult for others to say more, and the examiner will hand over the test paper to Emperor Jiaqing according to the new ranking. Emperor Jiaqing looked spotless and circled in batches. In the end, he kept the title of No.1 scholar, while Xie was only ranked second. Although Wu Xinzhong lived with his father in Wuxian County, Jiangsu Province since childhood, his ancestral home is still Changfeng in his hometown. Although he can't often return to his hometown because of his long journey and official duties, he has never forgotten that he is from Xiuning. Shi Jing Xiuning Guild Hall was founded by Wang Youdun, Jin Deying and other predecessors during the Qianlong period. It not only frequented, but also generously subsidized its daily expenses for many times.

During the Jiaqing period, Xiuning's hometown, which traveled in Beijing, was initiated by Shi Jing Xiuning Guild Hall, and the Xiuning Yiyuan Garden was established in Guangqumen, Beijing, which provided convenience for Xiuning people who died in Kyoto to park coffins and build tombs. Wu Xinzhong not only actively donated his salary, but also wrote an inscription for Xiuning Yiyuan with deep affection as a "villager". The photocopy of the inscription is still circulating among the people in Xiuning, and it has been collected by Xiuning County Local Records Office.
