Introduction to Wu Xiaoru

Wu Xiaoru (1922.9.8 ~ 2014.5.11), formerly known as Wu Tongbao, used the pen name Shaoruo, was born in Jingxian County, Anhui Province, the eldest son of the famous calligrapher and poet Mr. Wu Yuru, a historian, and a professor at Peking University. Wu Xiaoru studied at Yenching University and Tsinghua University, and graduated from the Chinese Department of Peking University in 1949. He once studied under famous scholars such as Zhu Jingshe, Zhu Ziqing, Shen Congwen, Fei Ming, You Guoen, Zhou Zumo, Lin Geng, etc. He is Mr. Yu Pingbo's disciple and has followed Yu Pingbo for 45 years. He has successively served as a teacher in the Chinese Department of Jingu University, a teaching assistant in the Chinese Department of Yenching University, a lecturer and professor in the Chinese Department of Peking University, a professor at the Research Center for Medieval Chinese History, and a librarian at the Central Research Center for Literature and History. Wu Xiaoru has high achievements and attainments in Chinese literary history, ancient literature, popular literature, drama, calligraphy, etc., and is considered a "multi-faceted master". Wu Xiaoru began publishing works in 1945 and joined the Chinese Writers Association in 1983. He is the author of "A Comprehensive Study of the Laosheng School of Peking Opera", "Examples of Intensive Reading of Classical Prose", "Present and Past Essays", "Records of Reading", "Shadows in the Heart", "Shazhai Notes", "A Bundle of Frequent Talks", "Xia Qi's Essays" and "Contemporary Scholars". "Volume of Self-selected Library·Wu Xiaoru" and so on, and translated into "Balzac's Biography". On May 11, 2014, Professor Wu Xiaoru passed away due to illness in Beijing, China at the age of 92.
