How to write seal script and its composition and brushwork
(1) Basic brushwork of seal script Mastering the basic brushwork of seal script is the most critical basic skill to learn seal script well. The basic brushwork of Xiao Zhuan should be summarized by "central pen". In other words, the main front of the pen must be in the center of the painting so as not to be exposed. It is characterized by hiding the head and protecting the tail, which contains strength, because the strokes written by the central pen are concise, powerful, round and beautiful, and have always been regarded as the main method of calligraphy. Let's explain several strokes commonly used in Xiao Zhuan. 1. Invert the Tibetan front horizontally (1) to the first end (2) and turn it into a round front. Turn right (3) to the end point (4) and then turn back to the left. 2. Turn the nib vertically (1), slowly pull it up to the vertex (2) to make the nib vertical, and then turn the front face to the downward pen (3). Pick up the trend pen 3. Bend horizontally (1) Point the pen to the front left (2) Turn the pen to the right (3) Turn the pen down along the front (4) and pick it up with trend 4. Bend straight (1) and point the pen up to the front (2) Turn the pen down (3) Turn the pen to the right, and then slowly move it down. If you want to go up first and then down, the key is to keep a mellow momentum, keep the depth of the pen and paper consistent, the speed is appropriate, pay attention to symmetry, the middle section is connected by two arcs, and the joints should be written naturally without leaving traces. 6. Write the left half arc first, and then the right half arc. When writing the right arc, pay attention to the correspondence with the left arc, and the lines should be done in one go. Don't hesitate to slow down, or your lines will be weak and powerless. 7. When writing the left and right outer arcs, it is mainly that the starting and ending points of the two arcs should be consistent, impartial, symmetrical, natural, compact and not loose, which fully reflects the smooth and smooth beauty of seal script. 8. When writing a square arc, whether it is a rectangle or a square arc, the pen should be rounded, the corners should be turned into arcs, the four corners should be corresponding, no trace should be left at the seams, and Fiona Fang should be harmonious. 9. The music and painting of curved Xiao Zhuan are varied and difficult, and should be written according to the direction of its circle. It's best to finish it in one go. If you can't finish it at once, you will overlap it two or three times. When turning, pay attention to adjusting the nib of the jacket or slightly twisting the pen tube to match the internal rotation of the hand cup, so that the nib can rotate conveniently. 2) Overlapping pen technique Many strokes of seal script seem to be completed in one stroke, but in fact they are made up of several overlapping pens. To leave no trace at the joint of the pen, it is mainly because there is no need to go back to the front at the end of the previous stroke, and the latter stroke is inserted. The overlap of the two strokes just hides the overlapping part in the stroke. Overlapping strokes is a very important part in the brushwork of seal script. If you master this part, you can make the text comfortable, euphemistic and powerful. 3) The stroke order is one of the keys to writing a good seal script. Reasonable stroke order is helpful to the structural arrangement of words and the improvement of writing speed. Therefore, mastering the stroke order of seal script is also a key for beginners to get started. The stroke order of seal script is basically similar to that of Chinese characters, such as horizontal first and vertical later, top-down, left-right and so on. This is not a problem for beginners. What is important is that it is different from the stroke order of Chinese characters, and these differences are the characteristics of the stroke order of seal script. Mastering these characteristics, we can grasp the structure of seal script and achieve symmetrical balance. 1. Symmetrical balance in the middle and left and right is the characteristic of seal script. For seal script with middle vertical line, you should write middle vertical line or middle stroke first, and then write other symmetrical strokes after middle positioning. For seal characters with a long arc in the middle (usually left and right strokes), you should start with the long arc in the middle and then write symmetrical strokes. 2. After outsourcing, the strokes in the box are generally written outside the box first, and then the parts in the box are written. This can control the size of seal characters and avoid overall inconsistency. 3. Write the main pen first, then the auxiliary pen. For the characters with the main pen and music in seal script, it is advisable to write the main pen first and then the auxiliary pen. 4. Among the seal characters that use the pen first and then the main pen, individual characters that use the main pen and supporting role should be written with the second pen first, so as to better grasp the center of gravity. 5. Flexible use of seal script with complex strokes, the requirements for strokes are not too harsh, as long as it is convenient, flexible and evenly distributed.
