From the age of 50, he combined the learning experience of calligraphy and martial arts, and established and improved Liao's calligraphy teaching system. He is the author of educational monograph Creating Children, artistic monograph Art Coma, calligraphy monograph Blessed are those who love calligraphy, martial arts monograph People who love martial arts have wisdom, historical philosophy monograph Understanding Revolution, and various articles.
Life is like a dream, and you get old before you wake up. Alas, heaven and earth are scattered, and love has been moving for a hundred years. I was just born before, and my friends are old friends.
Preface 1
Laozi said: "My words are easy to know and easy to do, and I don't know what the world can't do."
It's so profound.
According to my experience, after listening to my class, there will be four situations:
The first person is already a master in China, and his living standard is already very high. He agrees with me, but if he is not interested in calligraphy and martial arts, there is no need to learn it.
The second person's reaction is, great, do it at once, and may remember me all my life, thinking that I gave them an important life inspiration and entered the traditional culture from a useful way now. According to Laozi, such a person is a "staff sergeant", and "staff sergeant is knowledgeable and diligent."
The third person's reaction is simply: he was very excited when he listened, but he didn't act afterwards.
There are not many people in the first and second types, and the third type is the most, accounting for the vast majority. I call it "sergeant". "When a sergeant hears this word, if he lives, he will die." There seems to be such a thing, but there seems to be no such thing. No objection, but not implemented.
In fact, most of our lives are spent like this, drifting with the flow and stepping on watermelon skin. There are very few people who really see Siqi in The Quality of Life Evolution and shout for progress. There is no road in the world, and our ancestors did not show us the way, but there are few people on the road.
The fourth kind of person: "corporal", "corporal hears his words, laughs at them, and laughs at them, thinking that they are Tao." If you hadn't been denied and teased by the corporal, you wouldn't be right at all. Stop eating early.
Mao Zedong once said heroically when he was young: A gentleman has no body and no ears, but a strong body and strong mind. Why not?
The training of both civil and military skills is precisely for physical strength and brain power.
On Wushu with Double Cultivation
Both civil and military skills are the complete personality pursued by traditional China people. Quiet is the text of yin, dynamic is the force of yang, one yin and one yang, and the balance of yin and yang is the Tao.
The aristocratic education system in the Zhou Dynasty required students to master six arts: etiquette, music, shooting, bending, calligraphy and mathematics. "Zhou Li Bao's Family": "The six techniques of raising the country by Tao: one is five rituals, the other is six music, the third is five shots, the fourth is five imperial rituals, the fifth is six books, and the sixth is nine numbers."
Confucius started a private school and followed the rites of the week. It is also a combination of civil and military, teaching etiquette, music, calligraphy, counting, shooting and bending.
Interestingly, European knights should also learn six civil and military skills: fencing, horseback riding, swimming, hunting (or spears), chess and poetry.
Confucius said, "Quality is better than literature, and literature is better than quality. Gentleness is a gentleman. " Here, history means boasting.
Only Grandpa Wu is too weak to read. A gentleman is a man with both civil and military skills.
The problem now is that, on the one hand, the people of martial arts are too wild, and martial arts, as an aristocratic upbringing, have been reduced to the lower class and turned into commercial performances. On the other hand, the literati were too weak, seriously ill and young, and died suddenly. Ma Yun lamented that a thirtysomething employee of his company died of cancer. (See Appendix "The Pain of an Economist's Death")
In traditional culture, my evaluation of myself is:
(1) has no foundation, because schools don't teach it.
(2) Reading is limited, and I started reading traditional classics very late.
(3) Deep understanding, because from entertainment and practice.
Since the May 4th Movement, traditional culture has gradually withdrawn from the education system. Fortunately, I like calligraphy and martial arts since I was a child, so I gradually entered the traditional culture.
According to my life experience of nearly half a century, I suggest that we can enter the traditional culture of China from two aspects: the book way and the martial way. That's how I got here.
My martial arts is named "People who love martial arts are wise".
I divide sports in the world into three types:
First, the competitive sports represented by the Olympic Games originated in the west and are now popular all over the world.
Its original purpose was to train better soldiers and pursue higher, faster and stronger. Modern times have mainly evolved into entertainment and commerce. From this perspective, it has great value. From the physical point of view, it is no longer exercise, but "physical injury"-Yao Ming and Liu Xiang are two recent examples:
Yao Ming said, I don't want to live in a wheelchair.
Liu Xiang broke his hamstring again at the London Olympics.
The second is mass fitness. Walking, running, climbing, swimming, ball games, radio practice and so on.
The above two kinds of exercises are carried out at the muscle, nerve and bone levels.
The third is to practice physical education. This is a sport developed in the East, especially in China, which aims at life cultivation, including meditation, standing still, practicing martial arts at home, practicing Taoism and so on.
This kind of exercise is based on the human body's meridians, qi and blood, and spirit. This is the deeper level of the human body's small universe. As we all know, the deeper the physical layer, the greater the energy it contains: the nuclear energy released by nuclear fission is millions of times larger than the chemical energy released by combustion. So is the small universe of the human body. The deeper the level, the higher the energy and the greater the force on life. This is another example of the correspondence between the small universe and the big universe.
In the process of long-term practice, I realized that practicing physical education-Neijiaquan has the following four functions:
(1) Develop wisdom-Personally, I pay the most attention to the development of the brain above the shoulder, so I put the development wisdom in one place.
Once, I attended a seminar on martial arts culture in history. There was a gentleman at the meeting who came from a martial arts family and is now a doctoral supervisor. Perhaps because he is a Chinese teacher and is used to singing solo in class, he moved his class to the meeting, where he lashed out at how China's martial arts were unscientific and irregular, and how to win the "scientific" Olympic Games.
I couldn't bear to hear it, so I asked to speak.
I said that in my eyes, western competitive sports are just children's games, even worse than children's games in some aspects, because it is not as utilitarian as children's games. Competitive sports turn sports into "physical harm" while commercializing sports. Overworked training and competition have caused a large number of retired athletes to be physically injured. The crisis of China Wushu lies not only in the narrowness of folk, but also in the gymnastic tendency of professional Wushu teams, who blindly pursue high, floating and difficult movements. The third crisis of China Wushu is being brought into the track of competitive sports. Entering the Olympic Games did not improve the level of practicing sports, but decreased it.
It was at that meeting that I put forward four life meanings of Wushu as a kind of sports practice, the first of which is to develop wisdom.
That gentleman said that it is incredible that martial arts can develop wisdom?
