2. Story (Mi Gong washes ink)
Mi Fei is a respected honest official. According to historical records, one of Mi Fei's major characteristics as an official is "governing with elegance, respecting propriety, and getting rid of the temple of prostitution".
In the fourth year of Shaosheng in the Northern Song Dynasty, Mi Fei became the magistrate of Andong County (now Lianshui County) in Jiangsu Province, and he was in charge for two years, with many benefits. When he left the office at the expiration of the term, the squire people prepared a little gift to see him off as a token of their gratitude. Mi Fei declined one by one, and repeatedly told his family: "All public property, no matter how expensive or cheap, shall be left behind and shall not be taken away." He also personally checked his luggage one by one for fear that his family would secretly carry it.
Mi Fei found that a common brush was stained with public ink, so he asked his family to wash the inkstone and brush before leaving the county government. Mi Fei Linchi washed ink, without taking away Anton's little ink, and went on the road in vain, which was a much-told story for a while. In order to commemorate him, later generations named the pool where he washed ink "Mi Gong washed Mo Chi" and made an inscription on it.
