Yan Fu (1854.1.8—1921.10.27), whose real name was Ling, was later renamed Fu, and the word Ji was from Houguan County, Fujian Province.
He graduated from Fujian Ship Administration School and Royal Naval Academy successively, and served as director of the office of the Translation Bureau of Shi Jing University, dean of Shanghai Fudan College, dean of Anqing Teachers College, and editor-in-chief of the terminology museum in Qing Dynasty.
During his teaching in Beiyang Naval Academy founded by Li Hongzhang, he trained the first batch of naval talents in modern China, translated the theory of evolution, founded the National Newspaper, systematically introduced western democracy and science, publicized the idea of reform and reform, introduced western sociology, politics, political economy, philosophy and natural science to China, put forward the translation standard of "faithfulness and elegance", and produced later translation works.
