Xuan paper
Xuan paper is a traditional Chinese paper used for classical calligraphy and painting. It is one of the traditional papermaking techniques of the Han nationality. It originates from Jingxian County, Xuancheng, Anhui Province, and is named after the prefecture of Xuancheng. , so it is called "rice paper".
This kind of paper is also produced in areas near Jingxian County. On September 30, 2009, rice paper was recognized by UNESCO and included in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Rice paper originated in the Tang Dynasty and has been used throughout the generations.
Because rice paper is easy to preserve, is not brittle and does not fade over time, it is known as "paper has a thousand-year lifespan".
Rice paper is divided into raw paper and processed paper according to the processing method. According to the degree of ink bleeding on the paper, it is divided into raw Xuan, half-cooked Xuan and cooked Xuan. Use Shengxuan for calligraphy and freehand painting, and Muxuan for gongbi painting.
