Hang down the stairs, drink the dew, and make a hole. It is a classic to express the poet by writing the shape, reality and nature of cicadas.

These two poems are from Cicada written by Yu Shinan, a calligrapher and writer in the Tang Dynasty:

Cicada droops like a tassel on a hat, its tentacles suck the clear dew, and its voice spreads from the branches of the straight Shulang tree.

Cicada is far away from cicada because cicada is on a tall tree, not relying on autumn wind.

Cicada hangs down its tentacles like a hat tassel and sucks the sweet dew. The sound comes from the tall branches of the phoenix tree. Cicadas spread far because they live in tall trees, not by autumn wind.

The first two poems describe the appearance and life habits of cicadas, while the last two poems explain why cicadas can spread far away and express the author's pursuit of noble character independent of power. This is a typical figurative writing technique.
